“One reason I have become less closeted about being bisexual is the degree of nonacceptance, misinformation, and stereotyping that denies bisexuals the right to decide how to frame our sexual identities. Yes, it is possible to love men and women emotionally with or without sexuality. It is not a confused form of sexual identity or undecided sexual leanings, but men and women relating to men and women from a less restrictive psychological framework, to shape relationships.”

“As a bisexual man of color, I not only have to struggle against the biphobia from the larger gay, lesbian, and heterosexual communities; I have to deal with the biphobia of my own community too. It seems that although there is a general level of homophobia in the black community, the level of biphobia is higher. The men and women who may be bisexual are closeted and classified as either gay or lesbian. I feel this biphobia and homophobia is due in part to the very strong influence of religion in the black community. I think this is unfortunate because as an oppressed community we need to recognize all social groupings and not further divide ourselves.”
