Sudan Doctors Network: 25 Medical Personnel Killed in North Darfur, 20 Doctors, Including Four Women, Missing in El Fasher

Since the outbreak of the war in Sudan in April 2023, healthcare workers have been directly confronting the consequences of the conflict. Doctors and medical personnel have continued to provide essential healthcare services to civilians under extremely harsh conditions, including bombardment, armed clashes, sieges, and severe shortages of medical supplies. Many have paid with their lives for their unwavering commitment to their humanitarian mission while rescuing the wounded and caring for the sick in conflict zones. According to a report prepared by the Sudan Doctors Network, North Darfur has witnessed widespread targeting of healthcare workers. The report states that 25 medical personnel were killed in the state between April 15, 2023, and the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) takeover of El Fasher. The network also revealed that 20 doctors, including four women, were detained in El Fasher, and their whereabouts have remained unknown since the RSF seized control of the city.

The list of doctors, specialists, pharmacists, and other healthcare personnel killed, categorized by the reported cause of death, is as follows:

1. Ali Majd Talib al-Din Ahmed — Specialist and Director of the Continuing Professional Development Center — Assassinated.

2. Walid Farouk — Public Health Specialist and Trachoma Program Coordinator at the Ministry of Health — Killed.

3. Dr. Safaa Abdel Rahman Hamed — Medical Laboratory Specialist at Southern Hospital — Killed.

4. Yahya Sanin Mahmoud Hammad — Pharmacist at Kabkabiya Hospital — Tortured to death.

5. Al-Tijani Ibrahim Daloum — Pharmacist — Killed by a stray bullet.

6. Mutawakkil Bakri Mukhtar — Nutrition Specialist at Zamzam Health Center — Assassinated.

7. Ali Musa Issa — Nutrition Specialist at Zamzam Health Center — Assassinated.

8. Dr. Mahmoud Bakr Idris — Physician at Zamzam Health Center — Assassinated.

10. Khadija Majd — Nutrition Officer at Qouqou Health Center — Killed in a drone attack.

12. Maryam Ismail Ibrahim — Cleaner at Abu Shouk Health Center — Killed in a drone attack while on duty.

13. Saddam Al-Douma Majd — Researcher and Emergency Medical Volunteer at the Surgical Accidents Center — Killed in a drone attack while on duty.

14. Huwaida Omar Moussa — Nutrition Officer at the Children’s Hospital — Killed in a drone attack.

15. Abdulhamid Abdulrahman Saber — Immunization Officer at Umm Zoum Center — Killed by gunfire. #16. Ahmed Ali Majd Fadl — Statistics Registrar at Umm Zoum Center — Killed by gunfire.

17. Zubaida Ishaq Adam — Cleaner at the Dialysis Center — Killed in a drone attack.

18. Fatima Al-Sharif Ibrahim — Director of Nutrition, Director of Primary Healthcare, and former Acting Director General of the Ministry of Health — Killed in a drone attack.

19. Makka Ahmed Majd Adam — Nurse at the Children’s Hospital — Killed in a drone attack.

20. Abdulbaqi Mahjoub Aburat — Health Observer — Killed in a drone attack.

21. Abdulrahim Helou — Nurse at Qaryout Basham Health Center — Assassinated.

22. Sandal Bashir Haroun — Killed in a suicide bombing.

23. Dr. Nour El-Din Adam Abdel-Shafi — Medical Director of Umm Kadada Rural Hospital — Assassinated.

24. Dr. Omar Ishaq Salik — Director of Primary Healthcare in North Darfur — Assassinated.

25. Dr. Adam Ibrahim Mohamed — General Practitioner — Assassinated.
