I don’t know if I have or anyone else has shared but my headcanon has always been that when Derek lost his Alpha Powers by saving Cora’s life, they were just in dormant status and when he goes off to find himself, the alpha powers return. It makes no sense that doing something good for his beta would punish Derek. Stupid. So there you go. It’s not a Sterek headcanon but it has been in several of my Sterek fics.
I like that headcanon.
Maybe it was something psychological? Like he felt so powerless trying to save his sister and he was loosing his pack, so he shut off his powers because he didn’t feel like he was good enough to be an Alpha. But all it would take is for him to step up to protect those he cares about for that spark to reignite.

@always-the-little-spoon I would have to go with a couple, one as a viewer who desires the media to actually give a shit about survives. But as a character who was raped by a woman he had powerful potential to reach rape victims and they sexualized the whole thing immediately and I want to cry when I think about it. And my other one was just he had amazing potential to be an alpha and they robbed him and us of the story out of seemingly pettiness to have Scott be the alpha ����
I am with you on both accounts! The fact the rape recovery is so wholly ignored in the media and popular culture (and trust me I’m going to do an entire video on that with Derek and Nightwing and many many more) is devastating. Coupled with the fact that they had the chance to bring attention to male victims who are ignored and slandered more than women is a huge blow to all survivors. And Derek as an Alpha was squandered. Yes, it was noble he gave up power to save his sister, but he grew as a character and had the potential for more as we saw him evolve, literally.
Have you ever read or heard of a story where the supernatural/werewolves were outed or they 'came out' during the story? I have been really wanting to read something like that and have no idea how to search. Thank you for taking the time to answer either way!!! <3
