A Different Perspective: Sportswear
One of the most interesting aspects when it comes to personal style, is definitely witnessing how it slowly evolves over the years to actually portray an extension of yourself. Itâs uncanny to look back and see how much my own style has matured in the last 10 years⌠now in my 30s, I reckon there is still a long road ahead in what regards building a solid wardrobe that perfectly embodies my sense of self. Mind you, mature doesnât necessarily mean boring. I always have a hard time when asked to describe my style, but I guess something along the lines of âSouthern European mix of casual/elegance with an eclectic twistâ, wouldnât be too far off. Despite the fact I often dress smart, you can find virtually anything in my closet, from bespoke suits and shoes up to vintage kimonos or army jackets.
However, one of the things I changed the most was footwear: long go my sneakerhead days when I owned about 50 pairs of sneakers and virtually no shoes. Although the current ratio is quite the opposite, I still love to mix sportswear elements into my looks. Sportswear has come a long way, incorporating the latest technological advances and adjusting to a variety of styles that are no longer restricted to streetwear or the gym for that matter. Japanese style is a perfect example of how different universes can be seamlessly combined to create sophisticated attires. When JD Sports contacted me to review a couple of pieces from their Nike offerings, this aesthetic immediately came to mind: versatile items that can be sported in a variety of occasions and outfits.
On this particular case I took a more casual approach, focused on the days I spend shooting and need the utmost comfort and mobility. The lightweight waterproof Air Windrunner keeps you warm and dry, while the Free Run 2 sneakers are perfect to cruise around town or simply to help you get through a whole day standing with +3kg of shooting gear. The best part is that each piece can stand on its own, namely when worn in more polished attires.
