Honestly, because I've just seen yet another three page long argument erupt about it (i would recommend JeremyDuns for a follow, some really good analysis)- I'm still boggling at those men who think that the callouts Corbyn is getting atm for his defense of racist antisemitic oddballs are *exactly* the same as the smears that Ed Miliband got from every Tom, Dick, and Rupert.
I mean leaving aside the utter tone-deaf, callous stupidity of comparing the antisemitic attacks Ed got to Corbyn defending antisemitism in others... the whole reason that the Ed smears feel apart quickly was because he was geeky, mild, and incredibly, boringly clean. Literally. It was mentioned by an ex tory at the time - whether for better or for worse, Ed Miliband was one of the politicians with the cleanest pasts in our time. The best they could dig up on him was that he dated Stephanie Flanders a while ago, which was why they had to resort to bullshit 'stabbing the country' smears. Whereas with Corbyn, they've already dug up so much shit, they're having to hold some back for the next few years? They don't have to smear, because he kinda already admits to this shit? (But somehow fails to see what he did wrong or what a correct apology is, but anyway.)
Tl:dr - stop comparing Ed's treatment to Beardo's, kthanx.
