So originally I was gonna ignore this.

But here are my thoughts on why certain characters of mine have disabilities or illnesses or aren’t neurotypical:

The answer is really simple: it’s normal.

In The Queen of Romantasy and the Race Car Prince I have a character that has epilepsy. In System Failure, we see autism. In a Lando One Shot, the OC got a cochlear implant and has hearing loss.

None of this is meant to trivialise anybody’s experience. It is however used to normalise different experiences of different people.

Am I supposed to write a “wonderful” world in which everybody is “normal”, nobody ever gets ill and isn’t neurodivergent?

That’s ridiculous.

1 in 5 people in their lifetime will have cancer. I have lost a family member to cancer myself actually, namely my aunt.

So no, I don’t wanna trivialise it. I do however wanna normalise that writers get to write characters that aren’t the cookie cutter normal that we see 95% of the time. Representation matters.

And if any readers gets to learn anything from my stories, then I want it to be that differences in any shape or form don’t stop anybody from finding their happy ending.

Yeah, we had that discussion here before. I don’t use AI.

Which should be enough for people to realise that there is no way to correctly and accurately identify AI.

Because AI WAS TRAINED ON HUMAN WRITING. IT WAS OPENLY TRAINED ON FAN FICTION SPECIFICALLY.

Which is concerning in its own right. Believe me, I WISH it was easy to identify AI writing. The thought that we can no longer trust whether anything online is written by AI is terrifying and worthy of discussion.

But it’s very very clear that Cress is not using AI. I adore your work, Cress, but it’s imperfect. There are mistakes, words are occasionally forgotten, there are oddly constructed sentences at times.

All signs that her works are written by a HUMAN. Because human mistakes are infinitely preferable to AI ‘perfection’.

So what is the solution to the insidiousness of AI slop? I don’t know.

But harassing people is NEVER the answer. Attacking people is NEVER the answer. Targeting people with hate campaigns is NEVER the answer.

You know the true tragedy of the witch hunts? They killed innocent women. Not women who were dancing with the Devil or feasting on children. Innocent, often poor, women.

They didn’t target the wealthy landlords who lived in the lap of luxury. They didn’t target the ones whose lifestyles meant that the majority of people were poor and uneducated and lacking social mobility.

These AI witch hunts are doing the same thing. Harming innocent people while the true perpetrators of our AI hellscape get away with it.

Honestly, I love that my work is imperfect ❤️

to me it shows the work I put in to made it the story that it is. Every typo and forgotten sentence and weird word choice came from my brain and I love it ❤️

I have a problem with witch hunts for a lot of reasons but one of the biggest is the more you pile on people for using AI, the less likely they are to properly tag their work that uses it.
