All about the Swedish lips

A brief introduction

New on the aesthetic market it was invented by Dr Rebecka Gardell- A swedish doctor and injector.

As new as it is, it never passed by me and I’ve been watching it evolve chronologically. Since it first appeared in late 2024=> first announced itself on the market in april/may of 2025 => next year I’ll be doing a little internship very close to Dr. Rebecka & I’ll also be getting the treatment performed on me by herself.

Now when it comes down to lip filler,

it can ONLY come down three major ways.

Think about it as the big three:

-Russian Lip filler best performed by the AMV clinics worldwide

-British Lip aesthetics best performed and renowned by Dr. Tim Pearce

-Swedish Lip Filler revolutionized by Dr. Rebecka Gardell

Now, they are all VERY different and I wouldnt necessarily say one is better than the other unless you show me your anatomy and the look you’re going for.

Lets be very clear: the russian lip filler technique is not bad unless it is performed inappropriately.

Considering my love for lip aesthetics and the medical experience I’m gathering as my studies progress; I will be doing a deep dive on the british and russian lip philosophies soon enough and once the master post I plan on doing is finished, it will all come together beautifully!

Definition

The swedish lip filler technique is an injecting technique in which- when giving shape to the lips the blunt cannula is switched for a sharp needle, micro droplets are used and the filler is injected only in the concave part of the lips + the cupid 💘 bows of the lips.

Why am I raving about it?

First of all, it is a very well executed technique that respects the individual’s anatomy and proportions- a must for me in any aesthetic context

Second of all, let’s get into the nitty and gritty

- The switch from a blunt head to a sharp head allows incredible precision in shaping the lips, you can clearly see what you’re working with/ how to adjust+ minimal inflammation and bruising (fun fact most of the bruising happens when injecting in the vermillion border of the lips due to there being the vascular packet)

All the treatments that are on Dr. Rebecka’s instagram are taken immediately after and you can visibly see that there’s minimal swelling, bleeding and discomfort occurring from the patient’s mouth.

- Injecting only the concave part of the lips is the most genius thing I have heard in a long time aesthetically! You want a wider smile? Done. Want to evert your upper lip to have more surface to work with? Done. You want your true lips just enhanced? Done. Wanna combine it with a little botox lip flip for a more beautiful smile longitudinally? Done. Want more definition in the upper lip without having a virtual mustache? Done. So many boxes are checked with minimal inflammation and a great understanding of facial anatomy.

- Big plus I cannot deny? In Sweden only dentists, nurses and doctors can inject. People properly educated and trained.

- +++ They have a good understanding of what lip filler type they should use for you specifically.

I know I might seem here like an undercover sales agent for them 😂 but I promise you I’m going to get my treatment with my own money next year and I’ll be able to speak more about it after that & my little internship.

Not all laser hair removal devices are created equal.

The machine itself can completely make or break your results. A lot of devices on the market are overpromised, underpowered, and designed more for marketing than long-term results.

The right laser, the right settings, and the right patient selection matter far more than your average catchy phrases like “pain-free” or “permanent in 3 sessions.”

There’s a huge difference between real medical-grade technology (machines that can cost as much a house!) and expensive empty promises.

I’ve always been reticent and not really on board with breast implants. I, however, am a sucker for fat grafting, will always encourage that route compared to the implants.

I was beyond shocked to see the underlying disease that implants are.

This patient presented with saline breast implants and significant symptoms associated with Breast Implant Illness. Her left capsule was found to be calcified, while the right was severely contracted—causing ongoing pain. During surgery, we also identified a great deal of concerning black floating material within the implant.

Welcome to issue nr. 2 on lip philosophies- Russian Lips

This one’s spicier because everyone and their mom knows it and yet know nothing of.

NOTE: For the same reason previously stated, I will not include photos of her work but i will include the clinic name below.

NOTE: I use the term “flat” for which I will do a separate post due to its importance and complicated nature.

NOTE: Please keep in mind that I speak for the ladies who strive for quality aesthetic work not the average or “bimbo” look.

Little historic timeline

Fun fact! It was invented by a dutch doctor(in contrary to popular belief) Dr. Tom van Eijk.

When it first appeared on the market in 2005 it was known as the Lip Tenting Technique.

Today it is know as the Russian Lip Technique due to the immense popularity it gained in 2015 in Russia because it was associated with the voluminous lips of traditional Russian matryoshka nesting dolls.

The tenting technique overview

This technique involves injecting small droplets of filler vertically into the lip, starting at the base and moving outward toward the border, similar to how tent poles add structure.

Now compared to the swedish lip filler- which has a broader range of applicability and what you can achieve with it aesthetically (promise I will do a more in depth comparison between all three techniques) this is more limited and from what I’ve seen it can offer:

MIND YOU IF DONE PROPERLY!

1. Vertical height and structural support of the lip

2. Enhanced lip definition without excessive outward projection

3. A lifted appearance of the vermilion

4. Improved cupid’s bow and philtral column support

5. Balanced volume with less risk of a “duck lip” look

It is true that compared to the swedish lip technique it is more prone to migration due to the filler placement, just as a heads up.

If you’re actively looking for an injector to get this specific technique the most important thing to look is that they provide before and after at a lengthy interval and that is because fresh lips in this technique even if done incorrectly can look good however the lips should look relatively flat (as you can see on the AMV clinic pages) at any given point after the treatment is performed and the healing process is finished.

The best example of classic Russian Lips properly done is Alena Shishkova when she competed for Miss Russia. (I might do a post on the insanely well done aesthetic work she has)

Now if you enjoy the slightly bigger lips that russian woman go for (My russian friend calls them national dumplings) I recommend with my whole heart the AMV Clinics and Dr. Арсемикова Марха who have the following locations: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Dubai, Krasnodar

I will however state that regardless of lip preferences these are the ones that are associated with a certain subconscious image regardless of how well/ how terribly it is executed- that of a russian escort/ sugar worker, do what you will with this information.
