Making class optional for voting kind of frames it with the assumption that they don’t want to be in your class? :/ What if they miss something fun? Realistically, I don’t know if you have the power to make people vote if they don’t want to. Canceling class might give them time–on the other hand, they might be more likely to vote if they already got pants and shoes on and left bed, especially if they know everyone’s gonna be hype about voting in their social group.

Yeah, that’s a very good point - and I would have to make the content all, like, miss-able, and that’s just a waste of everyone else’s time and mine.

I get what you mean about the leaving bed thing, but my classes are in the late afternoon and early evening - most of the students you get in those time slots have had classes all through the mornings, too, so I’m just gonna cancel.

I use wax-based earplugs because the foam ones hurt my ears, if that's your reason for not wanting plugs. Then if I need more, I do have sleep headphones that can go over them. Headphones over earplugs block more than headphones alone, and pink noise >>> white noise.

I assumed that “pool weights” referred to those various brightly-colored rings and sticks and whatnot that are weighted so that once you throw them into a pool you have to swim down to the bottom to retrieve them, but google informs me that those are variously called “sink rings”, “dive rings”, or just “weighted pool toys”.

we might be pretty close to that now, with all the porn bots. On big tags like "#steven universe" there are a couple of pornbot posts per page, with stolen fanart and "Meet her now! 18+!" Back on LJ it really is just a tumbleweed field of bots. I get an interaction from a bot every few months on a post I made like 10 years ago. It really does feel more machine than human there.
