I think part of whats hard for people to understand about ai is that it is the one product where if you don't participate it wont make the product.
Like if you buy 1 fast fashion t shirt from Walmart not only would that short have already existed but also your individual purchase is unlikely to change Walmart habbits. It takes huge coordinated boycott to change what Walmart does.
If you ask a Ai for one prompt it will make one prompt. With out you it doesn't create that. With out you it doesn't uses that water. With out you it doesn't uses that energy. Now will that mean AI as whole whole wont exist no. These programs running takes energy on its own but, that cup of water will go unused.
It is as if you custom ordered that t shirt from Walmart that if you didn't explicitly ask it wouldn't exist.
So even if your like well ok I'm ok with the implications of useing that water and energy you have to know thats what your doing. In the same way that you should know if your geting that t shirt that it was made unethical and in a environmentally harmful way.
