A brief post on #Nagaland and influence of #Christianity on the #Nagas. Naga tribes coexisted with their Hindu Assamese neighbors amicably for centuries. The Nagas worshiped Sun, Moon & believed in Atma, just like the #Hindus. There was mutual cooperation between Hindu Ahoms & Nagas. Naga forces served in Ahom armies & in return, their settlements were patronized. In 1830, Nagas and #Ahoms revolted together against #British. The advent of Christianity changed everything. It is very interesting to note that the demographics of Nagaland did not change under the British rule. They changed drastically under the #Congress rule. The American Baptist missionaries were given a free hand and they indulged in rampant conversions and destruction of indigenous #NagaHeritage. The result has been very drastic. Within 60 years, Christianity rose from 0% to 87%. The insurgency in Nagaland went hand in hand with conversions. Christian Naga insurgent groups began seeking secession from India through the use of gun and terror. They bombed Hindu temples. Killed Hindu and indigenous Naga religionist tribals. The Church became the dominant power. It imposed Roman script on native Naga language. The last Hindu temple in Kohima was demolished in 2003. The #NagaNationalCouncil (#NNC) adopted 2nd American National Anthem as Naga National Anthem. The Manifesto of #NSCN is "Nagaland for Christ". 4000 lives have already been lost in this religious quest for Christ.
