Light steps caressed the carpet of the scrappy tunnel like a hallway, a small skeleton donning a scarf far too big for them, barely hovering above the floor, wandered forward. Holding various papers and scrapped notes that shouldn’t by any means be holding together as well as they were. Searching for his friend, of whom he hadn’t seen in ages. Well okay maybe he had earlier that day but they were so focussed on the next planet to check out that they maybe, kind of, forgot to check on them earlier. You can’t blame him though, I mean who wouldn’t want to explore unseen worlds?
Sneaking into the room, past the wooden door frame, Ink spotted blue out of the corner of their eye, now curious as to what he was up to. He had looked around, not spotting the other skeleton anywhere until his eyes drifted up towards the large floor to ceiling windows. Satisfied with himself Ink took off and up towards his friend, scaling the stairs quickly. Strangely this hadn’t alerted the other yet as he was completely absorbed in whatever was going on outside of the windows. But there wasn't anything new going on outside and he had nothing of note around him to hint as to what he was doing. No fun activities or supplies. Nothing.
So of course Ink called out to blue “Hey B-bow, what ya up to?”
After a small shift at the noise, Blue hummed calmly “Stargazing” his eyes never leaving the windows, fixated and distant like there was more than just empty space and stars out there. Silence dragged for a moment before Ink just decided to throw himself onto his friend's side. Easily accepted by Blue who still kept his main focus on the outside while shifting to get comfortable after being disturbed from his prior position.
“Theres not much going on out there though?” Ink quickly corrected his statement “okay well- yeah there is but nothing you're able to really see currently”. He gazed towards the window then back up towards blues face. Repeating these steps in quick succession in the hopes of figuring out what was so intriguing. Of course Ink thinks the stars are beautiful, their light glow illuminating space. Although something about Blues face seems off and he can’t figure it out. Maybe he’s bored? No, why would Blue keep looking out if he was bored. Ink ponders for just a moment before the slight crinkle of papers still held in his arms reminds them of what they came here to talk about and well it was easy to decide that he’d much rather tell Blue about all of the exciting things they’ll see on the next planet than continue staring at the window.
“Soooo-” Ink drags for dramatic effect, “the next planet is a type of Fell variant. And it’s so interesting that apparently they have these massive volcanos which are always active”. Ink pauses trying to see if there's any reaction from Blue. No response. Okay. Sure Ink can deal with that. Continuing regardless “according to what I was able to find the lava is apparently different colours depending on which region you're in”, Ink looks at blue before continuing noticing a slight eye twitch and with no clue what that means he takes it as a sign to continue further. “I wanna see one of the volcanos erupt, what if they-” A hand smacks over his mouth and covers it. “Ink please,” Blue suddenly speaks up. “Just- sorry,” the hand is lifted from Inks face. Before they can protest the interruption of the very defintely important information which was rudely interrupted, Blue forces himself to speak again “-sorry, I just really want to look at the stars quietly right now.”
That caught Inks attention “Why?”
“I just- just wanna enjoy the view” Blue stutters out, not seemingly confident in his words, shoulders far more tense than they were before. Blues eyes trying to stay focused on the windows but failing to, instead opting to glance towards Ink as his friend opens their mouth.
“Can’t you do that while I tell you about the next world?” Genuine confusion clouding their face, Blue always listens to Ink ramble while focussing on other tasks. Why is this different? Ink wants to know, he needs to know. He doesn't understand what's so wrong about them talking about this. Why is Blue acting odd? His eyes take on a deep blue and an orangey reddish hue, as frustration begins to pool in his mind. “Whats different this time?” came out harsher than they realised.
Blue no longer was looking towards the windows, his eyes didn’t fully meet inks as he spoke, “It’s not that I don’t want to hear about the next world, I just,” Blue breathes out a hefty sigh trying to find the right words before talking. “I’m just thinking about my brother,” he finally admits. Ink's eyes shift into softer shapes than before, now green and a light purple as he slightly tilts his head. Almost as if he was asking blue to continue. “He used to love stargazing when we were younger, I just thought he liked lying down and relaxing like always” he somberly chuckles, “he loved space, astrology, physics- god you name it. Him and Undyne used to ramble on about it endlessly.”
The affection was warm as he spoke, the smaller skeleton giving him time to collect himself from his thoughts before he continued while gazing back towards the glass. The slight glow from outside outlining his features. “Sitting here, staring out just reminds me of him. He would’ve loved this view and yet he’ll never get to see it,” tearing up and grief stabbing into his voice, “yet I get to.” Blues head hung low, no longer able to handle the stars glaring back at him. Their judgement is nonexistent yet somehow painful. Ink looks him up and down, not certain how to tackle this moment yet not wanting to further upset his friend. Although staying completely silent might not be what blue needs right now, they are uncertain but diving head first and dealing with the consequences after might as well be their profession at this point so he speaks anyway.
“Wouldn’t he be happy you got to see this?” That did it. Blue couldn’t hold back from sobbing anymore, choosing instead to hold his face within his hands desperately trying to grasp onto whatever composure was spilling out. Ink had no idea what to do, sitting there clueless and concerned that he had fucked up again. No, they had to keep trying. They made Blue cry so he has to figure out how to get them to be okay again.
“Blue?” Ink called out once, no response. “Hey blue?” a second time, this time blue dared to lift his now wet face out of his gloves. Looking at his friend, Ink reached closer trying to offer a comforting hand. Blue responded by crushing his friend in a hug, cuddling as close as possible. It’s strange to be held like you're important but Ink welcomed it gladly anyway. They sat there under the distant light of the worlds far away, the silence amplifying the sound of crying that was slowly ceasing to continue. “I just wish I realised sooner how wonderful the stars were, I could’ve watched them with him more. All of them more.” Blue spoke up, light coughs from crying breaking words apart in odd places but still getting the point across. Quietly whispering to Ink as if someone would hear his admission “It was only when I realised how little time he had left how wonderful they were.”
“Y’know, I used to avoid going out at night.. Seeing the stars because it felt wrong to enjoy seeing them.” He admitted more, getting slightly louder. Ink held him tighter. “Even when we first took off I tried looking away from the windows, keeping myself busy”, the words kept spilling out, as if he was unable to stop it. “But staring at them right now? They truly are amazing. All I want to do is look at them, take in it because he can’t anymore.” Blue stopped, his voice dying out towards the end. His tears still stuck to his face but drying ever so slowly.
Ink pressed himself into Blues side more, keeping his hold around his friend. They weren’t certain if they should say more so they didn’t. They both just sat there watching it all go by, feeling so small in comparison to the multiverse but not alone. No, not when they are here together. “So about those volcanos?” Blue asks hesitantly, trying to move on from his prior breakdown to hide within civil conversation, praying that Ink hadn’t forgotten about their discussion cut short from earlier. “Why are we talking about volcanos now?” Just like all of his luck, his friends' reliably bad memory did not recall it. He opened his mouth to change topic again but was swiftly cut off with a demand “I want to stargaze with you”. Blue stared at his friend's face, their eyes cyan and yellow now.
“Why?" asked Blue, now his turn to be confused while he waited for an answer to quell his enquiry. "Because you need it and cuz I wanna look at them now" Ink spoke, muffling the last part as he signalled Blue to join them in relaxing they were, a comfortable atmosphere settling in as their arms stayed wrapped around each other. Pages of a plan to visit a world long since discarded to the side, with two skeletons staring upwards resting against one another. All blue could think of is how wonderful the stars were and how glad he could share them with another again. Ink decided that this wasn’t as boring as he had thought, although he occasionally broke the silence with throwaway comments which meant nothing at all but brought a strange comfort to Blue reminding him of a long gone time as he reminisced about the past more. Grounded by Inks presence and light but endless chatting. He thinks he should stargaze more.
AHiTverse is a mix between UTMV and the game A hat in time. The roles and characters have been mixed together. This au does not represent the characters in canon from either source and should not be considered a canon representation of said characters.
This will be updated as and when new content (that needs to be mentioned, anything else can be found under the AHiTverse tag) is made!
CHARACTER REFERENCES
As a quick note most characters will be referred to by their name rather than their role/AHiT name. Those names are listed just to give more insight into their intended (sort of) roles. Also some characters may share roles. Some characters may not be yet listed here/are undecided at this moment in time.
