Bucky turns his head on the pillow to look at him. They’ve been staring wordlessly out the window, where from the bed the only view is the pale gray sky above the park. They’re not really touching anymore; it surprises Steve, to feel no need to touch him. It isn’t that he doesn’t want to, but feeling his nearness, the shape of him and the warmth, the sound of his breathing, is its own kind of slow, undemanding pleasure that Steve is just beginning to discover.

Summary: He feels like he's been reading the whole day from a book, following each line with his finger, and now that they’re alone, in arm’s reach, with the deadbolt turned firmly on the door, he’s lost his place on the page. He doesn’t know how much he can do, how soon Bucky is willing to let him give in to this. How much longer Steve has to pretend he hasn’t been dying all day from wanting him.
In 1952, Steve Rogers has begun to live again. Down the line, it's gonna cost him.

The clock on Bucky’s nightstand says 1.30am. The nights are cool now, and wind is buffeting the dormer window above him, but otherwise the house is quiet. Steve can’t even hear Bucky moving around downstairs. He stays under the comforter and tries to remember what woke him. He doesn’t think he was dreaming; he doesn’t often dream in Bucky’s bed.
Bucky comes back balancing two glasses in his palm, and Steve sits up and takes one from him silently. Bourbon—that answers that question. Bucky sits on the bed, and he’s trembling. Must’ve been him who was dreaming.
Steve leans back against the headboard, and they drink in the dark for a little while.
