For a moment, he considers the stingers in his wrists, right underneath the thin skin that Phil kisses, recklessly.  It is reckless -- Kaine is a monster, and the change in his face doesn’t change what’s inside of him, what he’s done. His thick eyebrows descend over his eyes in a scowl, and he yanks his arm away from the older man, put out and frustrated, but quelled.

I love you, he says, and Darcy knows immediately she is not going to get an answer. Atleast, she’s not going to get an answer to the question she asked, although Tony will be more than willing to give her a different answer to a query she hadn’t even thought of. Darcy is rewarded in the knowledge of her husband with confirmation and the sudden ache in her chest, the swirling nausea in her stomach. It’s never going to end -- and she knows that, respects it, loves it in her own way. That unceasing stubbornness to do what Tony thought was right was something Darcy adored, even if she didn’t always agree with him on what was right.

But that didn’t mean it couldn’t also kill her, a double edged sword.

“Please. No part of you is squishy.”

All the better to have broken insides, with nothing to protect them except the fucking tuna can he wore.

(It was strong. It was strong. It would hold.)

He’s looking up at her with big dark eyes and lovely lashes (how did he get so lucky to have lashes that naturally black, that naturally long?) and Darcy deflates, knowing he wants her to tell him it’s good enough, that she could deal.

“Only if I can buy that ‘77 Evel Knievel pinball cabinet and refurb it while you work on the suits.”

Darcy's biting off a length of elastic bandaid -- not at all sanitary, really, but it's only purpose is to keep the gauze in place over the frankly terrifying gash on Tony's forearm.

There are dozens of already soaked gaze pads in the trash can nearby, and Darcy is trying not to think about it.

She does that a lot, these days, when it comes to Tony.

It’d been hours since the battle and the color he could see was nearly back to normal, the dim faded colors having been brightening again as Doctor’s fussed around his Dad after Dr. Strange portaled them to a hospital with a doctor he said he trusted and then left again and came back with a frazzled but ready to help Dr. Cho. He’d gotten information on everything that had happened from Rhodey once the other was patched up, the other forcing him to get something to eat and take his med’s that he was over due for even before disappearing for 5 years.

The Doctors were seemingly done with his Dad by the time he got food and made it back to where he had been before outside of the room that he was suppose to be brought to when they were done treating him, and so he went in honestly trying not to let him see how upset he was. He quickly reached up though and whipped his eyes as he spoke. “They-the doctors said you should recover fine right?”

“13-year-olds are the meanest people in the world. They terrify me.”
