For Lain, I'm tempted to say sadness or regret but honestly most emotions are hard with him. He expresses anger a lot but even then, he never expresses it consistently. It's all over the place, he doesn't know how he's supposed to express it so he expresses it in every way he knows, essentially.

As for regret and sadness, he just doesn't understand it. He understands anger because he feels it when he feels wronged, but he doesn't understand regret at all. He doesn't know why he feels like that. He feels confused and then it typically loops back around to indifference, one of the reasons he's so comfortable just restarting, forgetting, losing people, etc. he doesn't know what he's supposed to do with that emotion so he does nothing.

Ahchah on the other hand, it's absolutely fear or anger. Much like Lain, he expresses anger a LOT. Except Ahchah does it in two ways:

Outright violence, or planned revenge. Essentially if he snaps he'll either immediately throw a chair at you or he'll be plotting on your downfall, like leading you into a trap or something.

But expressing anger and feeling anger are two different things, because what Ahchah typically feels when he's "angry" is fear. He is scared of everyone and everything, every single living breathing being is a possible threat. Every person is a challenger in some way, everyone is out to get him. Amd he can't just express that he's scared, of course not, that would be dumb— letting his guard down. So instead, when he's afraid, he lashes out as violently as possible in order to keep some semblance of control.

Dear drives like every action Ahchah takes. He's nice to you? He's staying on your good side. You benefit him in some way. You're useful. Sad around you? Most likely manipulation, making sure you're gonna be nice to him. Angry at you? He's sending the message that he won't tolerate anything that goes against his will and is willing to use violence to make you obey.
