Cobra thumbs through his contacts again and again. It’s late. Well, not for him, but for most everyone else. Most of the refugees in the sports center were well asleep. But not him. It’s not like it’s unusual, with how he usually stayed up all night, but it feels weird all the same.
He’d set himself up in the center’s office room with a heavy sleeping bag and had been staying there ever since the disaster had struck. It would have felt normal. Almost back to ordinary, like before he had come here. Here he is, sleeping in a sports structure again, live streaming on the occasion, preparing a charity and setting things up to entertain people, as usual. All normal.
But again, just like when he’d first come here, and again even after that. Alone again.
He scrolls through the contacts again. He’s lost count of how many times he’s tried, looking again and again. He’s been wasting away the night hours like this, but there’s hardly any use to it. It’s something he should have come to expect months ago.
They’re gone.

Ah it's probably a bad sign if someone tells you to say about yourself "you're a good person who deserves better and should take what you deserve" all you can do is give noncommittal responses or just laugh
