(Evidence of my yardwork nemesis, the pocket-gopher. During an hour that I spent pulling grass out of the flower garden, this little villain was hard at work digging yet another burrow and creating yet another pile of dirt.)

It is about 4 feet tall. It sprouted up among sunflower plants in my mother's garden. Possibly it grew from seed in the droppings of the goldfinches that visit the sunflowers every year? This is in the western United States.
