i feel like neil gaiman is one of those writers who is so masterful at narrative that almost all his books have that oNE LINE that the entire book was written for and hand to bible american gods with its "it doesn't matter if you didn't believe in us. we believe in you." is the best example.

don't you think it's unusual how almost nobody has pets in Pelican Town? It's a small town located in a rural area.
Leah would have like two cats and a dog. Sam and his family would have a huge gentle dog. Abigail would want a black cat but Pierre would never let her adopt one, he'd probably fake an allergy lol. Honestly I'm betting there would be the "neighborhood cat" that is nobody's property but who everyone takes care of. And he'd have multiple outdoors cat beds located around town.
I guess implementing something like that wasn't the priority for ConcernedApe (it would provide no functionality while making the code more complex nevertheless) but realistically speaking, I think Pelican Town should be FILLED with pets
