Send “tired?” to notice my sleep-deprived muse nodding off [accepting!]

Contrary to the bitter cold of the arctic winter outside along Beecher Island, the interior of HMS Terror was warm with the hearth of good cheer. It was someone’s birthday, and a celebration was in order.

Priscilla couldn’t help but laugh in amusement seeing a group of grown men wrestling the one whose birthday it was to the floor, and as if that wasn’t enough - more joined on top of the pile like schoolyard boys as the room was filled with merriment. Suppose we don’t ever really ‘grow up’ after all... she thought to herself as her hands hugged the cup of tea in her hands.

The music filled the air, there was singing, a jig or two, and witty stories carrying across their voices. Priscilla found herself mozying from group to group... table to table, for another drink or jovial conversation. And eventually, she made her way to take a seat beside dear Captain Crozier, who was also present. And to her delight, Aglooka too was even in a more relaxed mood. As she spent the remainder of the evening conversing with him, Mr. Blanky, Lieutenants Little and Irving, and sweet Jopson, and whoever else were there present, Priscilla felt she had lost all sense of time. As the evening drew later and later she let out a long yawn, her convivial social tendency slowing to grinning nods as she found it increasingly difficult to stay awake. But no one else seemed to have retired yet, and it wasn’t that long past her bedtime (which she underestimated as it most assuredly was possibly only mere hours before dawn).

Without realization or thought, her head plopped on Captain Crozier’s shoulder, as her eyes shut in a yearn for rest. A few moments later, her elbow linked with his, reflex from memories of yonder times - as if trying to hold on to anchor for fear of her being swept away with the tide.
