for a first trip into history, the devil’s chord is such a good one. ruby literally gets to meet her heroes (which is then echoed in the 15th doctor icons book when she tells the doctor to choose their destination and he chooses to meet shirley jackson: his hero). she’s so excited all the time to meet the beatles and cilla black and it’s so cute to see.

i actually love the fact that even when they start investigating where music has gone, she’s still finding the joy and whimsy out of being at abbey road studios and getting to talk to john lennon.

it’s also such a good episode from a characterisation perspective because we get more hints about her backstory and more mystery with the snow and the song. also, this episode playing around with diegetic and non-diegetic sound was such a neat idea and i love that her own theme was composed by her to help her best friend trudy - a trans lesbian - get through a heartbreak.
