NAOMI PREFERED A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF SPACE IN HER RELATIONSHIPS. in the few, if any of note, relationships she'd been after marco, naomi couldn't stand the feeling of being trapped. on the contrary, she enjoyed spending time together with her significant others. there hadn't been any particular reason when she'd called jack, other than that they were on a long haul and she'd been feeling lonely and bored. and perhaps it had something to do with the excitement she felt every time she heard his voice, but that was not a feeling she wanted to examine so far. it hadn't been exactly disappointment when her call had remained unanswered, but a level of worry that came with his endeavours. not that herself had much better luck on that department.
in the end, it'd only been a few hours before, not only she talked to him, but came much much closer. her body felt limp and spent in the best way possible, and she tried to bury herself further in his arms. the warmth of another's body was a tricky thing, it managed to erase all the times she spent without it, but made separation much more difficult. she deeply exhaled when jack pressed their foreheads together. she hadn't told him what that gesture meant to her. how it was engrained in every belter or how intimate it was. such a gesture out in the void could be the difference between life and death. radios, much more old and crappy ones aren't reliable. but belter crew could always rely on the touch of another's helmet for help.
at his words, naomi tried to do a gesture between a belter shrug and a protest but the limited space didn't allow it. " i used to be polite, sasa ? " there never was any space, well, out here in space. tiny bunks, empty corridors, whatever semi-enclosed space was used by belter lovers. so quietness became the more socially acceptable solution. naomi had never been particularly loud, but some of her reservations had faded. " we're lucky martians spent so many resources on soundproofing, " she huffed out but it was more in the form of a laugh. not truly believing every word. and then the kiss made her toes curl and forget anything she was saying prior. " i'm not saying no, but we would be kind of rubbing it in their faces, don't you think ? " naomi joked, scrunching her nose and then brushing against his as a way to feel closer.
her eyes shifted shut for a moment, feeling almost at peace after a long while. but the moment she heard him, they fluttered open again. " you don't owe me anything, " naomi replied instead, and her fingers brushed gently up and down his spine. he had a life besides her. she knew that and she was okay with it. it would be understandable to call her back when he had time. they lived in different times and places after all. jack'd told her she could always reach him and she believed it. even when it came with a bit of a time delay. " but, i am happy you came. " she couldn't deny the fact that she wanted to spend time together. that she wanted him here, if he did too. " i wanted to see you and you tend to have a magnet for trouble. " and even that could be an understatement judging by the time they first met.
