Starting up a buck account and ima say this now before i get harassed. I have never read any of his comics but from the information I have received and little info from the show its clear he has some training.
Fun fact in the comics he has a son and estranged wife. So from that my head canon is that hes been doing some sketchy shit since he was young but wasn't able to find good honest work or even sketchy shit for the right reasons so he settled for work for Fisk to make a buck even though he hates it.
Because I'm sorry that man is just there to do a job. He has no commitment like Wesley. Maybe he does have some but not as much or not enough to present. And no where close to Daniel's level of dedication.

Lance is literally the last thing Buck has at the moment. Saying his wife kinda just disappeared and he cant hold a job down so now hes an assassin he just wants his son.
Buck isn't the best dad but Lance adores him and lord is he trying.
BACKSTORY
After Gloria (his wife) ran away from the pressure of everything -- most of which Buck did not know about -- he was left to take care of their son Lance. However he was unable to hold down a job so he became an assassin once again except for random people.
He really did not want to go back, he looks for work at least aligning with his morals but was unsuccessful so he turned to the government. However hes still taking private jobs (y'all higher him he's amazing)
