if you are an artist, no matter the field, is a designer of space. whether your art happens on a blank canvas as with a painter or on the fabric of silence as with a musician, every artist walks with the responsibility to make space better (materially or non-materially). the paradox is, and what i foresee to be the challenge for the next generation of artists who are wanting to say something meaningful with their work, is that in order to authentically bring forth the unseen and unheard, the artist must first become intimate with space itself. Art gives herself only to those who intentionally take the time to listen. with no distraction. to her voice. therefore the gift of space also becomes the cost. this is the price every artist must understand.
