For the next couple of hours I will be bouncing around my house with an afro and some cheese sticks. Lovely lovely ^_^.

My natural hair is not something I “resort to” when my braids go old, it is a part of me, it will always “sprout” from my head. Extensions, be they in the form of braids, weaves or whatever else are NOT who I am, or who I aspire to be. I am sorry if the raw state of my hair offends you but please don’t expect me to jump up and down every time you tell me that you like it when i have hair that moves. If you like hair that moves on a black woman, kindly go purchase the brown barbie doll :) To everybody else who think it is okay to shove your hand in another persons hair without their consent please refrain from doing so, unless the hair in question belongs to an animal from a petting zoo. To all others who look down on ladies who put extensions in their hair (whether they are black, white, purple or pink women) have you ever stopped to ask why? When all the TV tells us is that flowing, silky smooth, straight hair is what determines beauty, what else can be expected from us women? Finally, to all the women who build their confidence on purchased hair, if there never were to be another piece of fibre left to extend, stretch out or hide our hair, what would that mean to and for us? Would that mean we’d have to deem ourselves as not beautiful? As not worthy of the opposite gender? As mediocre or inferior? NO It is high time we detached ourselves from stereotypes and expectations and pressures that the society we’ve created sets on us. Even Lauryn Hill stated that she isn’t her hair…why cant we own that?
