THERE WAS AN IDEA...
shortly after the events of the incident, tony stark suffered from the fleet of ships that he had seen when going through the wormhole. as a result, he would end up creating an army of iron man suits, intent on a solution to fight against the inevitable. while tony was dealing with the knowledge of what was coming through the skies, threats on earth would still exist; one such threat being extremis, a serum meant for super-powered healing, but led to individuals being burned from the inside out. tony stark, james rhodes, and bruce banner would put a stop to those behind the extremis serum, saving president ellis in the process.
it was tony’s lasting distress about the wormhole that would lead everyone to take his concerns about the wormhole, seriously. tony would also not be the only one to fear what was to come. after going back to asgard, thor would discover that people were after the aether. one whole year after the battle of new york, thor would grapple with the knowledge that people among the universe were after another dangerous weapon such as the tesseract. this meant that the earth’s protectors needed to be able to fend off dangerous threats who would wish to use these tools for harm. in an effort to ensure that no single person would be able to have access to all of the weapons, they were kept separated once more.
in 2014, there would be a new issue to worry about— hydra agents infiltrated shield’s ranks. steve rogers and natasha romanoff would try to stop the winter soldier, come to find out that the winter soldier was bucky barnes, steve roger’s closest friend. in their attempt to stop hydra, the issue was declared an avengers-level threat. working with sam wilson who would eventually take on the moniker “falcon”, the three were able to stop hydra, but not before dumping all of shield’s servers onto the internet. due to the severity of the situation and the potential of loss of life of the agents who were in those files, stark industries would offer their assistance in helping sift through the data dump and taking care of shield employees after the temporary dissolution of the organisation.
if there was one thing for sure? it was that the world was struggling under the weight of newfound threats. james rhodes and sam wilson would join the avengers initiative, to step in for any threats that would require extra hands on board. however, while grateful to the avengers initiative, it posed the question: if something were to happen to the current heroes on earth… who would be there to protect its people then?
