A feeling of dread ( A concept inspired by the indie game Vanish)
There it is again. That feeling that creeps up on me when i'm least expecting it. But this time, the feeling has a reason to emerge. I'm about to walk through a series of tunnels that might as well be an underground labyrinth. I was about to leave work when one of the guys asked me to find Phil, who was doing a maintenance check on the pipes in sector three. Apparently, Phil went to work on the pipes three hours ago and hasn't come back yet. "Yeah, I honestly think Phil is lost down there."says the man. "Phil?,nah", I reply with doubt, "Phil has never been lost down in the tunnels, he's been working here for about ten years, He knows this place better than anybody." I continue,"Besides, even if he did, he'd send us a call." What I said to the man was to comfort me more than it was to him. "I'll take a look, he's probably wandering the tunnels by now, sector three has bad signals, so calling him would be useless." I walk off to gather the needed equipment for the tunnels. As i'm leaving, the man calls out,"Hey, make sure you carry extra batteries, sector three's lights like to blow out due to the water leakage from the pipes."
"Noted"I respond.
I packed a small pack that contains a flashlight, a map of the tunnels, Four glow sticks, two batteries, a small water bottle, and a sandwich. Once I finished packing, I headed down to the area of sector three. I get into the elevator, and head down to the tunnels, I then, open the heavy metal door. As soon as I open the door, a waft of cool, damp air, rushed towards me, I walked through the threshold and closed the door. The tunnels are quiet,a deafening sound that is almost unbearable to others. Only, a few people are strong enough to take this job, I'm proud to be one of them. These tunnels have never frightened me before, but right now, the thought of walking through these deep, dank shafts gives me the feeling of insurmountable dread. Something doesn't feel right about them, the atmosphere feels like there's an entity inhabiting the place. I try to ignore this feeling, thinking that I might be getting claustrophobic due to the amount of time I've worked here. There are lights aligned along the walls, but there are times when water leaks into them, making the lights blow out expectantly. I start walking down the corridor, hoping that in the next fifteen minutes or so, I'll find Phil.
