Ngl I haven’t written down their lore in forever but here I’ll explain some of the basics of it (since it’s still in major development lol)!!!
The story takes place in the early 1900s (mostly 20s-30s) and follows a young farmer named David Smith. He’s always been a bit cold and kept to himself, however after an incident in 1924 which resulted in him losing his best friend/lover (Jonah Arc), his barn being burned down, and several families being torn apart, he has become unusually distant.
David dwells a lot on the past and is quite literally haunted by the people he used to know, but he’s also petrified by the people currently in his life to the point where he avoids them as much as possible. His deteriorating mental health results in him having vivid hallucinations which are heavily influenced by how he views others. He is most often tormented by visions of Jonah leaving him to become a successful singer which may or may not be a fictional memory… especially because he also has hallucinations of Jonah’s ghost haunting him, implying that Jonah died sometime around the incident.
I often refer to the successful singer Jonah as “future Jonah” which honestly has become a bit of a passion side project of mine that I might make a separate post on because in technicality a lot of it isn’t confirmed to be canon yet and I’m on the fence over it because I don’t want this story to become too complicated if I make it into a comic or something 😭
The angels are also very significant but I’m gonna make an updated post on them later because I’ve added another one since making the ref sheets :)
But yeah the story is mostly about dealing with guilt and the torment of one’s mind, especially when your mind twists your perception of people to the point where the version of them in your head in nothing like who they really are. And although it often seems more like a background detail, the story is kinda centred around the idea of learning to accept and explore one’s sexual orientation and gender identity. Like literally none of my characters are both straight and cis!!! Maybe a few of the minor characters but definitely not the main ones.
Btw if you have any questions about my characters sexuality or gender please feel free to ask I’ll do my best to explain it but also I’m open to people having their own interpretations!! However it does sting a little whenever people don’t recognize Jonah and David as a lesbian couple 💔😔 (YEAH I KNOW THEYRE VERY MASC PRESENTING TO THE POINT WHERE THEY HAVE PRETTY DISTINCT MASCULINE FEATURES BUT GUYS-)
Um anyways thats kinda all I guess! Oh and obviously this story has a happy ending eventually but I’m kinda just messing around with stuff rn and drawing what ever comes to mind. But don’t worry David will learn to love himself and others!! Also other characters will have their own individual arcs too because I’m not leaving anyone half developed!!! 😤
Oh and one last thing! The story is called A Far Cry From the Rest, I don’t think I’ve ever said the full tittle on here because I mostly refer to it as AFCFTR.
