𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐏𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐅𝐄𝐋𝐓 𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐉𝐀𝐖 𝐂𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐇 𝐀𝐒 𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒, his fingers flexed on the table top next to the neglected cup of coffee. A large reaction would be exactly what Dr. Astern would want, and even though he knew his paper had been peer reviewed and his findings were solid and that it would end on his side in the end --- the brief disgruntle and doubt was more about affecting people’s opinion of his work. Cast just enough doubt to topple his success, and Stephen wouldn’t stand for it.  “ I've come too far to watch some namedropping sleaze tell me what are my words worth. ”

“ 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐈𝐒𝐍'𝐓 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐈𝐓 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃 𝐁𝐄... ”  Stephen mused as his eyes gazed over the relic on the table. It had clearly seen some terrible days, to get damage like this. Engraved runes had been scuffed and rendered powerless, the crystal core was cracked in small places. The magic within it could still be felt, but it was not in any state to safely utilize it anytime soon.

𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄 𝐍𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐊 𝐈𝐍 𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐆𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐃 𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐃, his eyes casting towards her as they stood on the edge of the crowd. He was never too good of a companion at events like these, ones that hyper-focused, celebrated or yearned for the past. Stephen understood the general need for these kind of remembrances, especially when dealing with something as catastrophic as the infinity stone events --- yet that didn’t mean he had to be very good at them.  “ I've trained myself to give up on the past because I froze in time between hearses and caskets. ”

“ i  got  to  do  something  to  shake  things  up . ”
