He isn’t interested in nobility just because it flatters his ego. He really believes that status should mean service, effort, and accountability, and I think that makes him much more interesting than a simple snob character would have been. He can still be vain and socially oblivious, obviously, but there’s a real earnestness to him that keeps those traits from feeling shallow. He means what he says, and in a cast full of guarded people and hidden agendas, that straightforwardness ends up being really appealing."
