SHE IS BUT A SHADOW NOW  without the sun to shine upon her face, wandering through the dark like the rest of these poor wretches. it is not a comforting darkness. There is no solace to be found for her there. These years of tribulation had consumed her strength, wasting her away like sea against stone. sheâs vulnerable to the beasts that roam free across the land, to those around her that were stricken by this stygian poison.
It was how she had found herself in such a predicament. traveling with a small band of hunters, theyâd been beset upon by daemons. and though they had won the battle, the war had only just begun. the wounds they had received had infected them, transforming them into that which they hunted. the young woman she had shared a tent with had turned as they slept, sinking sharp, oozing black claws into tender flesh. ezra had dragged herself from the chaos, leaving a trail of blood in her wake as she roamed. Â
bloodstained feet drag her across the miles, through empty towns and finally to the desolate city. his city now... his chaos, his ruins, his blight. she isnât set upon by the scourge that lurk in every corner of this once beautiful place. she wouldnât care if she was. perhaps she HOPED she would be struck down where she stood as she hefts the doors open with her remaining strength. this was not the darkness she wanted ( and nor was it his )
her eyes no longer shine like the moon. they are dull and hazel a stream with tears of black and of blood. she makes it only a few steps before her knees behind to buckle, swaying before his cursed form â i ââ i had nowhere else to go. . . â even in words unspoken does she stutter and tremble. she collapses under her own weight before she can offer him anything else, only able to fling a roiling mass of barely discernible thoughts and feelings at him across the narrow space between dimensions. anguish, fear, rage, pain. she hates her vulnerability almost as much as she hates kneeling before him. she hopes the weight of what she feels drives him to his hands and knees too.
