was i the only one confused about how long akechi was detained?
not sure if this has been pointed out before, but i noticed an interesting detail that the english localization omitted while i was rewatching scenes in japanese.
i'd always wondered when akechi was released and what happened between then and jan 02, because in english he says, "i was thoroughly interrogated" and "it should be impossible for them to release a confessing suspect after only a brief interrogation."
so like, was it brief, or was it thorough?
since akechi turned himself in on the night of dec 24, that would've given the police a maximum of ~8 days to interrogate him. that doesn't seem brief (by other countries' standards, at least—compared to the fact that japan can detain you for 23 days without charge, i guess 8 days can be brief?).
in japanese though, akechi says on jan 02 that he was released earlier that morning. this detail is not in the english localization. in japanese, he doesn't say anything like "thoroughly" or "briefly" when describing the interrogation—he just says that the police simply interrogated him and let him go.
so akechi is detained until the morning of jan 02 after all, which is when this conversation is happening.
which means that right after akechi is released, while he's still trying to figure out why, he pretty much heads straight for leblanc to find joker.
and i genuinely think that's beautiful.
