jeongguk can't remember the last time he rode in a car for more than ten minutes. it's been weeks, at the very least, but within that he's learned incheon's public transport system. backwards. more often than not opting to catch a bus rather than have someone go out of their way just to give jeongguk a ride, he'll walk most places, within reason. but today's destination is too far for even the fittest pair of legs to walk. jeongguk's not sure where exactly they're planning to stop but he knows it's close enough to his hometown that'll it give him a pang of homesickness the second they head back to incheon.
they've still got a decent way to go, barely breaking past the first quarter of the length of their trip. when they were packing their bags into the car, jeongguk snagged the keys and shot a bright, oddly mischievous grin jimin's way. which proved, in retrospect, to be a pretty detrimental move on his behalf. since jimin had taken the keys back lightning fast, faster than jeongguk's ever seen him move. taking with it jeongguk's hopes of sitting behind the steering wheel anytime soon.
it's not that he doesn't know how to drive ā("i have my license, i passed the test", he reminds his hyung at any and all opportunities), but even he feels safer in the passenger seat with jimin behind the wheel instead. he assumes his hesitation will dissipate with experience. he doesn't expect jimin to drive the whole four and a half hours by himself without pit stops and stretching breaks, and jeongguk's offered to switch with him if he needs it.
but the added bonus of being able to change the radio with every fickle urge for a new song doesn't hurt either. jeongguk just wonders how long until jimin cracks, tells him to choose a damn song already, brat.
his eyes flicker down to his phone and he chooses another song, one that jeongguk has had stuck in his head countless times now, and starts to realise he hasn't been in jimin's car that many times before. when he had, it'd only been a short trip and he hadn't had the chance to really look around. but now that he's focusing on it, he can recognise the familiar scent he's come to associate with park jimin. it's comforting, a sweet shock to his otherwise sensitive sense of smell. he puts the window down midway, testing whether the scent will mix well with the fresh air now whipping through his side of the car and lets his head fall back against the headrest.
he's started something in himself, too observant, and now realises there's a quiet rattling towards the back of the car. perhaps the number plate loosened a little and shakes around with the speed of the car. jeongguk focuses on listening out for it more than he bother to look, comfortable in his position, but ends up getting lured in by the song playing instead, singing along louder than he realises.
"have you had something to eat today, hyung?" jeongguk finally asks after a comfortable bout of silence between the two of them. he's not too hungry himself, more just looking out for jimin than anything, but he wouldn't mind a drink if jimin's feeling peckish.
