I know I’m a little late today, but it is now the third Advent and the theme this week is Joy. When relating this theme to Tarot, I immediately thought of The Sun card. And, as it turns out, The Sun card in the Tarot of the Saints deck is an image of the Christ himself!
The Sun card is commonly associated with success, fulfillment, and optimism. This card, to me, just radiates abundance.
I also find it interesting that in the Tarot of the Saints, The Sun card refers to the image of Divine Mercy which was revealed to Saint Faustina Kowalska in a vision. In the vision, the saint was directed to have this image of Jesus painted. Many various versions of this image have been created; and apparently when the original image was made, St. Faustina wept in frustration and complained to Jesus, “Who will paint You as beautiful as You are?” In answer she heard the words, “Not in the beauty of the color, nor of the brush lies the greatness of this image, but in My grace.” Meaning that how the painting looks isn’t important; but the feeling of awe, devotion, and trust that it inspires is.
And finally, looking to Jesus in John 16:20-22,
"Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but your grief will be turned into joy. Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world. Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.”
