Where Do Smiles and Tears Meet?
Companionship
There, I found him He was so little I couldn’t believe he could be in that place A corner so dark and humid Surrounded by decayed, destroyed walls And a rotten floor creaking with each step
He was crying so loud, but I never heard a sound His sobs were so intense he couldn’t breathe His gaze so fixed and buried in his hands, He didn't notice me there
I tried to call him by his name I tried to reach him, but he didn’t even bother I tried singing, but still no reaction I tried writing, but he couldn’t see it I tried it all, but nothing worked
So I just stayed… I stayed in that place with him I felt the darkness embracing us I felt the cold running through our veins I felt the harsh winds drying our eyes I felt it all there with him Until it was done
He laid his head on my shoulder and fainted
I covered him with my arms I held him tight in my hands, stood up And I strolled to the exit
He was so little His hair and nails so long His face so dirty And his eyes so numb
I took care of him from that day on
Until one day, I heard him laugh out loud Until one day, I watched him play outside Until one day, I saw him making friends again
One day, I saw him so happy I couldn’t believe it was him.
I sometimes find him there, again But now he can hear me But now he can see me But now he can read me And even wrote this with me While we were visiting
I recognized this feeling again… The day our eyes first met And even though you had the biggest smile I could see the little girl crying in that place
I was a fool to think I could help you I was so arrogant to believe I could do it again I looked for that little girl with all my heart Yet I never found her
I failed so hard But now I understand:
Only you are allowed in that room
And I hope you can leave that place, holding her tight
