Well, my friend! Let's break it down. πΊπ»πͺ©
I picked a simple looking bow with an average priced center to give a good baseline.
I charge $52 for this hair bow. I try to shoot for an average of around that for most of my bows.
Costs: - $14 enamel pin by Snarky Co - $5 other supply costs (this is a guess because I'm not calculating per inch cost of ribbon and thread) - $1.81 transaction fee for processing the payment - $14 estimated taxes I will owe on the income
A bow like this will take me around an hour to make, maybe a little more at my current pace.
As long as I leave out ALLLLL the other costs to run a business like web hosting, shipping supplies, event fees, travel costs, and the physical toll on my body which after 17 years of sewing has finally said "SLOW DOWN..."
My "profit" on this $52 bow is around $17.19 in my pocket.
My sales have slowed like everyone else's and I'm doing what I can to keep making it work. Everything is more expensive right now and we're all feeling that. I have 6 bows in my shop right now that are 15-35% off because they didn't sell after a few events and I'm trying to make them more appealing to cash strapped folks.
I understand that my bows are out of some people's budget. I also understand that if I want to get something nice from an independent artist, I might need to wait and save up for it.
I want to buy just about every cool skirt my friend Maya Kern makes but I can't afford to buy a new $50 skirt on a whim. I have to plan for it.
My bows costs this much because β my art, my time, my skills β are worth this much.
