Did you know rats make AMAZING pets?? Rats can be trained to do tricks, come when you call, and even use the litter box! Rats are funny, loving, and sweet by nature. They love company and any types of food. They need large setups to run and play, like cat towers, and daily handling. Rats can get depressed without knowing friends and love. Domestic rats are NOT outdoor wild rats. They are born and raised to be indoors and do not carry diseases that the common outdoor rat may. Domestic rats are referred to as "fancy rats" because of their amazing color variations and being bred to fancy (adore/own/domesticate). We have some amazing sets right now. They are all kept in foster homes with daily interactions from adults, children, and other pets. These guys end up in shelters just like any other discarded animal. Interested in learning more? 27 Animals Headed Home!! Yes.... 27 adoptions to 21 families. 😻 We have come to realize that when we're the busiest, our social media presence is at its lowest. We apologize for that because we LOVE TO SHARE the work our volunteers are doing EVERY SINGLE DAY! Just over a week ago we had 92 cats and kittens in our care. We have been working hard every day in our foster homes and facility to get those numbers down. We want the best outcomes for our wonderful animals. Because of this, these smiles are everything to us. Due to the adopters showing up and promising forever to these amazing creatures, we are able to save more. There are so many at the shelter waiting to come join our team. We want to help every one of them, every time we're asked..... but that's just not possible without this type of outcome. Adoptions save lives. Fosters save lives. Volunteers save lives. We have the absolute best people working in our organization PLUS the best adopters around. Please meet the lucky newest five rat babies! These adorable and incredibly sweet babies were born as an accidental pet shop litter. When the owner of the pregnant mom found out, she happily raised them in the comfort of her home and made them super social lovers! We have two bonded boys and three girls. Please allow us to introduce you to our newest little love.... Sid. Sid was surrendered to us as a bite case yet we are unsure of the exact situation which caused him to bite. He is just a baby at just under 3 months old. We know he was scared because he was originally snake food that the snake wouldn't eat, then transferred over to a home where he only ate cat food. We've said it before and we'll repeat.... cat food is TERRIBLE for rats. We were expecting a vicious little guy on arrival but what we received was a small guy looking for friends. As you can see here, he is being held in gentle hands and shows no signs of aggression. Rats are typically NOT biters. Do they bite? Yes. Anything with teeth CAN bite. Anyways, Sid is safe and snuggly in a foster home while he receives delicious and rat-friendly foods. We also deworm our rats and provide them with mite prevention. We put the heath of ALL of our animals at the top of the priority list. Right next to health.....happiness. Welcome to the family, Sid!
