So, they’re not new new, but I haven’t written with them in forever, and I never got to give a ton of backstory. I finally just got their chara pages up, the links are attached to their bolded names later in this post. you can look at them on a computer or by pasting the link into your mobile browser (b/c the tumblr app is a damn mess)
I’m really invested in them right now, and I would love it if y’all sent asks and prompts about them, esp if you have any ideas for them for Sickdays
here’s the one fic I’ve posted about them
here’s a drawing I did of 3/4 of the gang:
and here are some asks I’ve answered about them, as well as some I answered just about Yves
a bit of backstory on their world:
It’s a low-fantasy region with varying levels of technology depending on the country and the type of tech, but the most advanced shit they have is like ‘20s-level phones, cars and planes. Most land travel is still done by train or horse, and communications use phones, letters, and telegraph.
The three countries relevant to this story are the République de la mer du Sud, Estado de Ocaso, and Schwarzenscheid. It’s not set on earth, but they use earth languages because I wanted to and I can.
The République is where basically all plot stuff will happen, as the protagonists live there. They speak French and Spanish there, chiefly French, and they follow a monotheistic religion called the Communion of Fortune. The country is not friendly to other religions; following another beliefs system is basically forfeiting your rights. It’s a small island nation, so they eat lots of fish and have lots of boats. Their chief exports are medicine and other medical technology. They’re currently going through a revolution, and all the nobles have been killed/overthrown. My four main nerds are on the side of the rebels, and they’re about to enlist in the rebel army.
Estado de Ocaso is Serafino’s home. They speak Italian and Spanish, and they follow a polytheistic religion called Setta dei Nove (Corone). Their culture is a bit,,, shallow? Like they tend to favor aesthetic over practicality, and fashion is very big there. They’re also a bit less modern than the République.
Schwarzenscheid is Silvan’s home country. They speak English and German, and are also followers of the Communion of Fortune. On paper, it seems like an okay place, but they’re terrible at taking care of their common citizens, and unless you’re born rich, you have basically no chance of being truly successful.
The unofficial leader of the group. Very smart, sometimes too smart for his own good. He’s a devoted student, but loves to hang out with his friends and boyfriend in his free time. He and Yves aren’t exclusive (and definitely aren’t public or out either), and he flirts with girls a lot, especially after a few drinks. If he thinks he knows better than someone, he will aggressively assert his opinion, until they concede or a fight starts or his friends drag him away.
He’s a pretty nice guy, though, and just wants to make his own way in the world. As an orphan in Schwarzenscheid, he was never gonna be able to do anything with his life, so he worked his ass off throughout his early teens (while studying French and Spanish in his free time) and saved up enough money to move to the République. They had just finished a revolution when he showed up and started college, and he assumed things were going to settle down and get better so he could build a life for himself. Instead, boom! second revolution. Right now, he’s about done with his studies and ready to go off to war and prove himself.
Silvan’s boyfriend. The baby of the group despite being the second oldest. He’s very nice, but also very fiery if he gets riled up. He’s big on like helping and defending other people and advocating for equality, and has a bad habit of starting fights he can’t win. He met Silvan when the big nerd started coming into his family’s cafe to study regularly. His family are pretty chill people too, and they really like Silvan. They’ve basically pseudo-adopted him and try to feed broke skinny boi whenever they can.
He came from Estado de Ocaso to study and explore. He’s very loyal to his home country, but has grown attached to the République as well, so he’s staying to help fight. He’s very catty and flamboyant, but charming when he wants to be. Pretty smart, too, hence why he was able to go abroad for school. He still wears traditional Ocasan clothing and follows their religion even though it gets him lots of nasty looks (especially from the loyalists, who are way less progressive than the rebels). Met Silvan when they had a class together, and they hit it off right away.
The oldest of the group by far, but deffo not the Mom Friend by any means. More like the Bad Uncle Friend. She’s coarse and crass but fiercely loyal to her dumb boyos. She makes lots of dumb bets with Serafino, and she, Silvan, and Serafino wingman for each other constantly. She met the boys when they were out bar hopping and was basically like “let me show you how it’s done.” Female soldiers haven’t really been a thing in the past, but this revolution was so violent and unexpected, both sides are basically at the point of taking anyone who will fight, and she is most definitely down to fight.
