He definitely bows.  And quite deeply, I might add.  

I was in session with one of myprofessors a long time ago and he told me, “Give yourself permission to feel the way thatyou do.  Always.”  It is advice I have kept and cherished.

Our emotions do not limit us, regardlessof our gender, though women are historically saddled – unfortunately the connotation is usually negative –as the emotional ones.  This is true hormonallyas well as socially, springing from the procreative need to betterunderstand and care for our young.  This trait is a gift, I believe, and not a curse.

Emotions allow us to empathize andpersonalize situations, to absorb the world around us in a spectrum of colors,not just the black and white of wrong versus right.  In times of crisis they act as our moralcompass, a very loud angel or devil on our shoulders.  There is a balance to be sought, of course,between strong emotions such as hatred or fear, (conversely even euphoric excitementcan be dangerous) and the ultimate decisions of a leader.  Such base instincts should be weighed onlyafter significant introspection – a technique I am still working to master withthe help of my colleague, Sarek.

Though my Vulcan friends might disagree,and certainly I don’t discount whatworks for them, I have always found that when I nurture my own emotionalwell-being, and consult my gut feelings, they often do not lead me astray.  I believe the same is true for most everyone; when they give themselves permission to listen to that most private voice, success is usually right around the corner.  At the very least, it’s easier to look at yourself in the mirror the next day.

opinion on love at first sight: Yes, with conditions.  Looking back she fell for her ex-husband very quickly.  She knew pretty much from the minute she saw him that she wanted him, but didn’t realize that it would turn out to be for more than just one night.

how ‘romantic’ are they?: On a scale of 1 - 10, she’s about a 5.  She appreciates the sentiment when it’s given by others, but she rarely goes out of her way to be romantic in a traditional sense.  She’s fine without flowers or chocolates, she’d rather have that love and appreciation spread out over the years in a million little, ordinary ways.

ideal physical traits:  She likes a good head of hair, something she can run her fingers through, and strong arms to hold her tight.

average relationship length: she’s maintained a casual, on-again, off-again friends-with-benefits thing with Gabriel for the better part of thirty years.  Her marriage, however, was very short, just over a year.

preferred non-sexual intimacy: Occupying the same space, silently.  Reading, or listening to music.  She also enjoys art exhibits when there’s time.

commitment level: This is tough.  She tricks herself, she wants to want a serious commitment and stability, she likes the idea of it.  But the only real serious commitment she’s made in her life was to Starfleet.  She was in love with Leonard, wanted it to work, but when he became uncomfortable with her career and suspicious of her other relationships, that was the end of that.

opinion of public affection:  With Gabriel, never.  Their relationship was hush-hush from day one.  With Leonard it was different, he wasn’t in Starfleet.  It was the only time she’d ever been able to be openly affectionate and she enjoyed that very much. 

past relationships?: one serious boyfriend, one failed marriage and one long-term friends-with-benefits thing.

I know you’re all concerned for me, and I appreciate that.   But this is exactly where I want to be right now.  It’s quiet, it’s dark.  Other than the stench of rotting bodies it’s the perfect spot for a long-overdue nap.

Top 3 tv shows: Television isn’t really a ‘thing’ anymore, I think it fizzled in the late 2050’s, but Commodore Paris (she’s a big history buff) introduced me to the archives a while back so I’ve been perusing while I recover.  My favorites so far are Chicago Hope, Survivor, and I’m currently making my way through Frasier.  That show is a hoot!

3 favorite tv characters: Dr. Grad; Red from Orange is the new Black; any self-confident, strong, fighting-for-what-is-right character on the screen is my favorite – likewise; any damaged, pulling-themselves-up-by-their-bootstraps-not-afraid-to-embrace-help-and-rise above character has all of my respect.

Last movie I watched: Just before the war broke out, I watched all of the Harry Potter films with my niece.  That Malfoy guy gave me the creeps.  

Favorite band/singers:  Oh, the woman who portrayed Mimi at that Kasselian Opera House near Starbase 46 was just fantastic when I was there last year!  I also enjoy Joni Mitchell.
