All Roads Lead to Oberlin, or All Roads for short, is such an amazing opportunity to experience what being at Oberlin truly means. Deciding where you want to spend the next few years of your life is a big decision, but All Roads is a chance to get a taste of what Oberlin offers - and a reminder that the hard part is over, you’re in! Looking back on my All Roads experiences, I have a few tips to share with newly admitted students:

Take a deep breath, and dive in! All Roads is only for a couple days, but there is so much to do and so much to see.  Explore the college, the conservatory, the town (the Ginko Gallery has kittens in their backroom, I may have spent an hour there with some new friends during my All Roads experience) - no matter what you’re looking for, you’ll find it somewhere in Oberlin.

I’ve heard people say college is the chance to reinvent yourself, but that’s not quite it - it’s an opportunity to explore, grow, and figure out who you want to be. Just be yourself and you’ll have no trouble finding your people on campus. In fact, I made my first friends at Oberlin during All Roads.

Divide and conquer! There is so much to do and so much to see during All Roads, it’s impossible to get to every event. My suggestion is to have members of your family go to different events, and explore what speaks to each person - you can meet up throughout the day and compare notes.

Panther for a Day: Starting in Early February, we invite you to experience what life is like as a Panther. Visit campus, sit in on a class of your choosing, take a campus tour, have lunch with a current student, and see what it feels like to be a Panther for a day!

Admitted Student Experience: Our admitted student experience is offered Monday-Friday at 10am and 2pm beginning January 11th and concluding Friday April 29th. This experience will consist of a brief admitted student presentation, a student panel and campus tour specifically designed for admitted students.

Preview Day: On Saturday April 9th, 2016 you and your family are invited to visit Chapman University and interact with our distinguished faculty, meet our admission staff and current students, experience the campus, take tours and meet other admitted students.

April 13, 2015. The day I will decide whether or not I will kill myself or kill it here. I’m currently trying to figure out what I actually need because we are only flying out, attending Preview, and flying right back home. All so that I can be back at school for the worst test of the year... And I digress.

Here’s a list of things to do in order to be prepared for Princeton Preview:

1) Hit it up. Get the name and email, possibly a phone number of your regional admissions officer, a representative in diversity outreach, the presidents of clubs or groups you’re interested in... Preview has a pretty fluid schedule, so you can do what you want in the first few hours on campus. Make sure you contact specific people so that they can set aside time to meet with you.

2) Print it up. Print out the program schedule, a map or two, a list of classes, etc. Figure out where you’re going. Know what’s important to you.

3) Questions. You’ve been admitted. Woot! Now just go over all the publications, forum posts, and websites you’ve read that led you to this school, and think of any questions you might have. This is your time to get them answered. Think of anything and everything! You’ll meet students who can give you the nitty gritty, deepest darkest secrets that the admissions office doesn;t want to advertise. If you’re going to be here for 4 years, you might as well know now!

4) Clear your mind. You picked this school probably because there’s a lurking expectation of what it is or isn’t. Let’s be real, you’re looking for the prestige and incredible intellectual challenge that comes with the brand name... Just make sure that you are open to what you’ll experience at Preview. You can think all you want about a school, but you could definitely be wrong. Keep in mind that you are getting to finally meet those you’ve been admitted with, those you’ll be working closely with and those who you have to turn in papers to after crazy all nighters. 

5) Listen. Preview could definitely change your perception of a campus and make or break your decision to go to Princeton. And that’s okay! That’s completely the point of you attending Princeton Preview. Try to find that balance between logic and intuition. If you feel like it’s the right place, go for it! If not, and you’re hung up on a few details, think about them. Are they really that important and can they be helped? Is there something missing that you absolutely cannot live without? Make a list of the things you observed or didn’t observe. Get into contact with the person that served as your host and ask them about these things.
