Why notes matter
Iām sure a lot of readers who may not happen to be content creators are wondering,Ā āWhy are the admins/writers of blogs I follow freaking out overĀ ābest stuff firstā and notes?ā
Itās because notes tell us how you feel about our writing. Likes, reblogs, comments, DMs, ALL of those things are the lifeblood of our work. Sure, there is a part of us that writes just to write because itās fun and we love the characters/shows that we choose to indulge in.Ā
You know that feeling you get when a writer answers your ask? That flood of āoh yea, Iām so excited to read this!ā Thatās how most of, if not all of us, feel when we get notes, ESPECIALLY reblogs! Bonus if you have fun tags or add a note saying why you love the post, that you love the post, ANYTHING is like life/muse infused water.
But when we put content out into the world and no one responds or barely does, it stings. It makes us doubt ourselves and our work and wonder why weāre trying SO HARD and putting in so much effort if no one is even going to read it or take that little bit of effort to let us know how they feel about it.Ā
Itās so discouraging for me, a blogger who is one away from 1800 followers, getting barely 10-30 notes on any given post. Unless my work totally sucks, that just isnāt right.Ā
That is 1.6% of the people who follow me letting me know what they think of my work.Ā
So, in cold hard black and white that means 98.4% of my followers either didnāt see the work, didnāt read the work or didnāt like it.Ā
If you donāt like it, thatās fine, Iām sure thatās going to happen. I donāt even mind if you respectfully tell me so and if youāre feeling extra generous tell me how you think I can improve.Ā
But the feeling of being ignored or of failing so hard no one wants to even bother telling you, it sucks.Ā
So yes, notes matter, likes matter, reblogs matter, comments matter, ALL OF IT MATTERS to us as content creators.Ā
And itās not just Tumblr where reader/creator interaction is missing. Fanfiction.net, AO3, Wattpad, Deviant Art, Iām sure all of these places are suffering from the same lack of reader/consumer interaction.Ā
Weāre doing this for free (most of us, if you do commissions awesome and I wish you best of luck and itās great people are willing to pay to get more).Ā
So please, if you want more content, please think of your words of encouragement, thankfulness and just general opinion as the currency.Ā
We provide words of imagination, fantasy, fun and indulgence.Ā
Will you, dear readers, considerĀ āpayingā us with words of thanks and encouragement and/or in reblogs and likes?
