Why I fought so hard for Freddie to win, and why I'm upset he didn't.
So, even as I was hoping for Freddie Highmore to win Best actor in Television series- drama, he didn't. And as happy as I was that it went to someone of ethnic background and who's performance in "This Is Us" was amazing, the awareness and victory for the Autistic and neuro-divergent community that Freddie's win would have brought means so much more to me personally. Since "The Good Doctor" has aired, I have seen more acceptance and less hatred across the community of people who have Autism. And as someone who has struggled to be taken seriously with Autism, I see a little bit of myself in Shaun's character. The show personally has brought me a lot of happiness, confidence in myself and others, and enjoyment. Over the course of its airing I personally have begun taking several steps to make my home, school, and environment Autism friendly in the sense that we wouldn't be seen as retarded, stupid, slow, uncapable etc. Freddie Highmores win would have brought so much happiness to this rather huge community. So much awareness, so much acceptance and a beginning to a long road of no more hatred and bigotry. Thank you if you have read this.
