hello here is a long sad headcanon
ashton met a lot of people through josh, but probably one of the most important ones was oliver wyatt. he was barely a year older than him and the two boys quickly became really good friends. josh never liked it, but figured he couldn’t keep the two apart and just let them stay friends. once josh dumped ashton, oliver helped him find a place and get on his feet which pissed josh off. he hated the idea of ashton being independent and since oliver helped him, oliver would have to pay.
josh ended up shooting oliver in the head, taking pictures before, during, and after the act. he sent them all to ashton hours after the fact, acting as if he was currently doing it. after the first picture (oliver tied up with a gun to his head), ashton called josh and begged him to not do it. josh had really just wanted to make ashton feel worse, make him regret getting his independence, and make him remember this forever. he hung up saying just ‘check your texts’, and there was the other pictures josh had taken.
josh had too many judges in his pocket that he got off with no charges.
ashton pretty much planned oliver’s funeral, himself only 4 other people knowing him personally being there.
to this day, ashton still feels guilt about it and has nightmares about it. he visits his grave a lot, but doesn’t really tell anyone about it.
