The thing about Ikea is that no matter where you go in the world, if you find an Ikea store it will always look the same. This ad feels like that aspect of Ikea: familiar and comforting.Â
Initially I thought the ad was going to have some sort of relation to how kids see the world differently, but it ended up taking a more emotional path. It starts off looking like itâs going to just be about a son tagging along with his mother on an Ikea shopping trip to offer his own thoughts, but the way he seems mature beyond his years hints at the final reveal.Â
This ad resonates with me especially because Ikea has been part of my own journey growing up; Iâve gone from being a regular at their kidsâ play area to being part of the shopping.
The ending has a bit of something that many can relate to, whether from the motherâs perspective or the sonâs. Even when we become adults, to our parents we will always be the child they watched grow. Yes, itâs been done before, but I think that Ikea executed it well.Â
