chunghwaâs hallways are hollow, void -- an empty that is eerie, but welcomed with a soft, solaced sigh. with the windows splaying warm orange sun-rays on her side, her shadow looming high on the building interior, it doesnât shock yena that the school is deserted. itâs far later than a good student should be at school, and chunghwa is nothing if not a prison for the good, the studious, the unhappy. sheâd stayed to discuss the particulars of her new status as an actual stagnant student at the school with the staff -- not surprisingly, they had to piece together the many patched plot-holes that was her educational career.
she had left with the stench of cigarette smoke catching on the ends of her hair and the promise that because she was son yena, they would find a way.
( money and a catchy name does wonders. )
sheâs strolling back to her home room when she hears it. itâs muffled, scratching -- a gravelly, distant tone that only carries over in the silence of the deserted hall, deafened by the wall between them. but itâs familiar. agonizingly so. and as much as son yena is synonymous with flighty bitch, sheâs not so heartless and not so careless as to forget a boyâs voice. especially the voice of a boy she could have -- well, more than just liked.
itâs an act of impropriety to eavesdrop on a conversation, but sheâs never been much for playing along with the rules, so instead of walking along in feigned ignorance she digs her heels into the ground by the open door of the classroom and peeks inside. itâs unmistakably him -- tall frame, lean and lanky, sturdy shoulders and the weight of the world on his back, voice distressed. soohyukâs always looked like a boy thatâs been stretched too thin too young -- as if pulling and pinching his spine to stand straight would make him more than what he was,
she always thought of him as perfect regardless.
yena waits for an ending in soohyukâs flurried conversation -- heâs on the phone, clutching it so hard his knuckles stand proud -- and a heavy silence to fall before she breaks it. âyouâve sounded better,â she begins, light and lilting and quintessential yena -- you can hear the smile in her tone. âguess i forgot how hard it was for you to be the golden boy, soohyuk.â
itâs not tactful in the slightest. but neither is she.
closed starter | @acsoohyuk | Night at the Boardwalk
She only met his eyes once that night, right after she walked down the stairs after painful minutes looking down to watch each step, the moment she looked up she met a warm pool of brown eyes. Her heart beat quickened on the moment and when she was ready to throw him a smile, something unpleasant caught her attention.
Flickling her eyes she realized he was too busy to greet her, not by the crown around him but more of the company he had on his arms. She didn't caught her face because she didn't had to, the mere exchanging signs of affection were enough to her back to where she belonged: not with him.
"- Unnie, letâs drink something?" the raven haired female turned her head to the small girl that was calling her, taking her away from her own dreams in a single moment. And since that she didn't met the warm brown eyes again, getting lost on the group of people or simply turning the other way whenever she caught a glimpse of the male.
Despise having complained all week because they kept filling her with things related to the dance even though she wasn't part of the organization team, she was thankful for having something to do instead of just sulk in the corner. She even danced a bit! And engaged in some games with her friends, fought with the Taechon students that tried to put alcohol on the drinks and clapped to a surprisingly not so ridiculous dancer cover of SNSD.
The time was passing by and the so was the night, the moon was at it's peak, glowing in the faint sky and students little by little were leaving the dance. She saw Chunghwa colleagues bowing and thanking for the party, Dongnam soccer players doing that half-handshake half-hug thing boys used to do and Kurin kids laughing along Taechon students. Daldal was also ready to leave when she saw the girl that was on her debate teammate arms previously. Although she wasn't alone, she wasn't with Soohyuk either. In fact, she was busy giving a single flower to a striking tall and well build boy.At first she hadn't cared about the situation but then she started to think about him more and more. What he could be doing? Was he lonely? Perhaps he was tired? So many things ran on her mind and none of them met to the situation she found herself into.
Daldal finally found him but he was once again followed by his usual guards, she couldn't see his face but could imagine how much of a soreness he could be feeling. It was a dance, for anything that was cherished! Yet there were huge man behind him keeping him from being a normal teenager at least once on his life. So he wasn't allowed to have fun? And for some reason, a stupid, selfish reason, she wanted him to feel all that. Maybe that was just her wanting him to be a little more normal so that would make him more approachable or at least give her some hope that she had at least one chance, but her motives weren't important and the important thing was to give him a few moments of, if not normality, of sanity.
Sneaky, she grabbed his hand that was almost twice as bigger then hers, making him turn his head. She put her index finger in front of her red tinted lips and lowered, reaching his ears and with voice as smooth as velvet simply said:
"- Shhh. Be quiet, I know a way."
She didn't took his hand away on purpose, she enjoyed the wrinkles of his palm and how different their touch felt against her very own. They were still smooth but she could sense the difference between both of them. He was clearly a man, from the bones of his large fingers to the wideness of his palm, her thumb kept caressing the back of it - an old habit that it was really hard for her to break. They turned the corner where a group of Kurin kids were busy having their momentum of glory, that should be enough for the bodyguards to miss them, for now at least.
The more they walked away from the venue, the harder became for them to be found. She only stopped when she noticed that it wasn't the expensive lights that were guiding them anymore but the shining from the stars that covered them like a dark sheet. That should be enough.
Daldal's cheeks are suddenly kissed pink like a spring rose, the blooming color so cute against her snowy frame. She looks away and release their Interlaced hands, just realizing what she had done and how confusing he must've been. Still she tries to keep her cool and twisted her hair on her hands.
"- I-I thought you were bored" she tried to justify her actions."- You didn't looked like someone who was having fun, I was worried that they kept reminding you of your obligations and you didn't had time to be, you know...you."
He probably wasn't understanding a thing she was saying.
"- Not like...how can I say...it won't hurt if you spend a few minutes being only the teenager Ryu Soohyuk instead of being the president's son Ryu Soohyuk." Â
Her arms wrapped around her, calming the chilling feeling of the cold breeze agains her naked shoulders, the air was still and heavy, and thick clouds blotted out the stars."- I think I managed to fool them for at least fourty minutes, though."
And she smiles at him. A smile that just seems so genuinely sweet with just the right touch of shyness, so unexpected of herself but still very sincere.
Can we pretend that airplanes are like shooting stars? ||
ăâă Although there are still some documents to finish, Daldal wouldn't  like to make that day any longer then it already was. For some reason the debate team was in a streak during the last few weeks and she, as the leader and president, had to take care of each one of them. She was picky about each topic and during the discussions, wrote down highs and lows and loose threads of each argument tossed on the table, with the intention of giving a feedback to each member later.
On one hand, this made her team become strong and consistent with their reasoning, on the other she had a lot of things to register post club-meetings. Daldal had to clear all the manuscripts and cease writing English slang at random moments during her notes. She basically needed to unify the writing so that no member felt left out.
She cleared her throat and lifted her face, fixing her gaze on the top of  the club vp, Ryu Soohyuk, hair.
â  - Thank you again for helping me with this  â
She said, breaking the comfortable silence that enveloped them.
â  -  It's not your job to take care of my pampering, and I know how much of a busy person you're but I'm not going to lie: I really think I'd go crazy if I ended up doing this on my own.  â
She smiled at the corner of her mouth, jotting papers with her hands and placing them in a drawer on the center table near the windows. How many hours had passed? No idea. She lost full control of the clock tickling since the moment Soohyuk sunbae said he would help her with the club's affairs. Daldal was more surprised then anything since he was known for being very busy. Her slim fingers pressed against the curtains, peering out at the sky that was dark but lit by the stars.
â  -  Ah, Soohyuk sunbae, have you seen this? âÂ
Daldal Opened a large smile and turned her face to meet his, almost immediately returning her attention to the stars.
â  -  It's hard for me to get used to it, I still get some shivers when I see the sky like this ... When I was living in New York, I pretended that the airplanes were like star- â  Â
She cut off her speech when she noticed the bright constellation,Â
â  -  Ah! I can see Orion. And right under, Lepus and Columba, right? Daebak ...  â
Daldal felt a nostalgia for identifying the constellations, remembering the time she sat almost all night on the porch of her house memorizing each for a future Olympiad.
She opened all the curtains in the room and apologized as she ran to the other side, turning the lights off. Daldal still couldn't suppress her much more direct and unfiltered personality, sequels of her creation in the Queens. The second year leaned her back against the wall, sliding down to sit on the floor, eyes focused on the image in front of her, which looked more like the work of a famous painter then the large windows at Chunghwa.
â  - Sorry, I'm turning the lights soon but... â  she inhaled the air and just handed him a smile  â The view just takes my breath away. â

BIOGRAPHY!
he was born into the welcoming atmosphere of a highly political household, a beloved politician for a father and a socialite for a motherâit seemed like an excellent recipe for producing their adorned eldest of a son. the head of the household seemed albeit too perfect for a father figure: diplomatic, pristine, and proper. words had similar construe about the mother as well, though add in with a dash of elegance and poise and they were good to go. ryu soohyuk was the epitome of perfection, the exact same fashion they had carved for their second born as well. it was the story that people could bargain for, a storybook-like novella which produced such splendid family.
growing up, soohyuk lived pretty much a boring life. nothing too exciting nor out of the norm would occur inside of the ryu household. his father had seldom been home, unless for breakfast and dinner of course since ryu jooyoung himself was a busy man working for the blue house as one of its âpresidential secretariatâ for years. his mother, who was a retired model and actress often stayed home and took care of their only son. making sure that he and his sister grew up in a posh and exquisite manner.
fast forward into the years and he clearly remembered most of the tutelage that he received. considering how the tutoring was instilled from a very young age, from the basics of mannerism to the importance of learning foreign languages. the latter is what little soohyuk had endeared most as he had been clearly enticed by the flow of those strange sounding words and complex letter forms to bouncing around from an event to the other, as the housekeepers kept him immaculate. making sure that appearance had been rather impeccable and maintained that way.
now, he didnât mind it at all though there were times when he was envious of his friends. getting a task out of his fatherâs schedule was a hard job, even if it were to sign his report cards. so, angeline park had the privilege and tendency to do all of those tasks done when he had secretly wished that his father would momentarily be involved within his life.
when the time had come: it was around he was sixteen that his fatherâs name was up for running president, which had meant one thingâthere were less quality time being spent with the old man, at times he found out that his father had not gone home for a few days. and when the latter did, it was only for a change of clothes, breakfast or only refreshments. causing the bond over them to be more distant than to was he was a little boy, the fellow could only watch the father of his on television. running campaigns here and there, ensuring for a better nation and going around until the moment cameâwith a whopping of 54.55% votes from the citizens, ryu jooyoung was named the current president of south korea and ryu soohyuk, was officially, the presidentâs son.
being the son of the president had definitely had a long list of advantages, he was often granted the privilege of travelling back and forth around the globe. attending official events, mingling with influential people and being pampered was already a routine that he was accustomed to live with. after all, he was the heir to the throne, as his father would speak of. who else would live up to the family tradition other than him? being the only son of the family, soohyuk is deemed a lonely lad but never would he display that longing and desire of his to have a companyâthe public had reckon that he would have a large social group, he was, the presidentâs son after all. wrong. what the citizen had in mind for him and thought of him, had not been completely true.
1) âitâs the presidentâs son!â they would often exclaim if they saw him.
regardless if he was with the man of the hour, or not. after years having lived under the same roof as the president, it still came in a form of surprise for if he learned that the public had their mouths tittered regarding of him. bowing and offering the most sincere smile he could possibly could, soohyuk had returned them. causing a stir of emotions being triggered, some in delight, and some in slight repugnance. yet the rare case would be the eventual one. however that dislike trait of theirs had only blossomed in learning the âcoldâ look that he ironically, inherited from ryu jooyoung himself. contradictory from the older, the president could easily manipulate the icy cold facial expression and turn it into the well known face that everyone endeared.
now, onto the present. the first son is currently attending chunghwa international academy in his third year. which to put in precisely, they âplacedâ him there as the school was highly known for its highly acclaimed reputation, taking philosophy as an elective and mustering the prospects of it. what people were unaware is that, he only took the optional course as an extra lesson to his fatherâs wish. so that when he graduates which is around the corner, he could be admitted into one of the best law universities the nation had to offer. all in all, there laid something inauspicious from the fact that his name was present onto taking the unwanted subject, whatever the old man has up on his sleeve, the only son of the family was the vessel to accomplish it.
2) âbeen there, done that. canât we just get this over with?â he bite back.
outside, his calm demeanor was notorious display for the public. as some magazine and a few articles would address him as the presidentâs âcool sonâ, though on the conflicting side of it, he had put up that charade magnificently nevertheless his insides proved all of the world otherwise. it was only a matter of time as he could just hold it in altogether before collapsing. when that day comes, never question him for doing so. ask that âdearâ father of his, not him. therefore, only his mother and his closed loved ones who understood him completely and hopefully, he was going to get out of his fatherâs clutches, alive.
âso⌠youâre the presidentâs son. like the actual presidentâs son. the guy whoâs running this country.âÂ
london nods her head slowly, very impressed.Â
âyouâve come a long way from that nerdy boy back in london,â she says, laughing quietly as she recalls life back at home, when soohyuk had been a welcome distraction from the toils of training. itâs interesting to think about, the way their positions have changed in such a short amount of time: back in london, she had been in the spotlight; now, soohyukâs the one in front of a hoard of cameras. âfunny how the world works, donât you think?âÂ
london sniffles, rubbing her hands together to generate just a tiny iota of warmth in the chilly winter air of seoul before she stuffs them into the pockets of her school blazer. it makes sense, the difference in their school emblems carrying the contrast of parental expectations for the both of them, completely different, and yet somewhat similar. despite herself, london smiles at the thought.Â
âwell. iâd love to stay and chat, but... training.â she nudges the duffel bag in front of her feet with the tip of her sneaker, sighing quietly at what awaits her. âitâs good to see you though.âÂ
her bag is heavy on her shoulder as she stands, a small shiver running down her spine as the cool air hits the back of her neck. london leans down, pressing a kiss to soohyukâs jaw before waving goodbye.Â
Before she could withdraw her mind from its far places, his arms were around hers, his grip as hard as the cables that held the Brooklyn Bridge. She felt again the rush of helplessness, the sinking yielding, the surging tide of warmth that left her limp. He bent back her head across his arm and kissed her, softly at first, and then with a swift gradation of intensity that made her cling to him as the only solid thing in her chaotic world. His insistent mouth was parting her soft lips, sending wild tremors along her nerves, evoking from her sensations she had never known she was capable of feeling. And before a swimming giddiness spun her round and round, she knew that she was kissing him back. Her arms reach up and tangled around his neck, playing with the wet strands that curled near his ears. She breathes in sharply and kiss him delicately, his arms encircling her waist drawing her in, his lips hungry for hers.
How could she elucidate the sentiment of kissing him into mere words? An entire ocean of ink wouldnât be enough to describe them. It felt as a starburst of light among  the darkening dusk. It was all the stars in the sky condensed into a single point. It was everything and nothing,a beautiful dream and a catastrophic nightmare. He was the half that made her feel whole. It wasnât like listening to a new song, but opening a book and finding a language youâd never seen before, something fascinating, like tasting an enigma.
ă  For that single moment time stops.  ă
She doesnât listen the percussion of the waves coming in bursts and rolling like the ocean. In fact she doesnât even notice them. Itâs just him and her. Thereâs no travail, no progeny, no praetorian, just the juvenile couple . The beach is gentle beneath their bare feet. Tips of shells peek from holes, made by little creatures, seeking shelter in the soft sand. Mini dunes of beige dust soon to be soaked by the sea, gradually creeping its way further onto shore. The sunâs rays peacefully float, resting on the warm waters. Timid clouds are rarely exposed, leaving the sky to beam blue. The water around their body is glacial, but she doesnât mind because his embrace is fervent.
That was her gift for him, his birthday endowment. No where as exorbitant as the gifts he received from his family and comrades, or luxurious and refined  like the imported chocolates many of his followers gave ,she wasnât giving him any of the above.
Her gift spoke louder. It was a memory. A perfect getaway, a ride outside the disordered world they both lived in, a farewell to his worries and a hello to a new departure. A decampment, a undisclosed place on his lucidity that he could everlastingly come back when life got ridged. He could forever reminisce  that even when his life got aphotic, he had her.
âHappy birthday, Ryu Soohyukâ, she spoke in advance scraping her lips against his.If the eyes are the pylon to the soul, the lips are the same thing for the body. They are the softness, passion and the promise of the sweetness to come.
