Aclla - Landscape Revolution
Artist: Aclla Album: Landscape Revolution Label: Metalodic Records Genre: Power Metal
The album kicks off with "The Totem" full of speed and power, some of the music reminiscent of Bruce Dickinson solo work. It's a bold brash start that maybe sets the bar too high. What follows is good but a little too comfortable and it isn't until fourth track "Ride" that the power comes back and with it the real enjoyment. I wonder if the vocals are just more suited to the straighter sound, this particular song reminiscent of Anthrax and (if I recall correctly) "Lone Justice". And so it continues with the band seemingly more accomplished when hitting the real full on power tracks. The alternative songs are nicely varied and there are decent attempts at some progressive metal (one track could have easily come off Shadow Gallery's "Digital Ghosts") but I would imagine the opener would put off the progressive fans whilst these songs may just be skipped by power fans. All in all it's a strong enough debut and some songs do stand out. The songwriting is very good but maybe a little too much is crammed in to the album giving a risk of pleasing no-one with such a varied sound. No doubt this is an attempt to be a little different but it's a high risk strategy and can sound a little clumsy and disjointed. As said I like it but that is from the reviewing perspective where I am willing to break down the parts. Will listeners? 16/20
