Here's that unfinished baby drawing i told you about. kfksdjfn like i said very sketchy and abandoned but yeah!

They’re trying real hard not to let him notice, and he’s giving them an A+ for the whole effort-- but hey, John Winchester isn’t that blind. He’s seen the subtle touches and hugs and handholding. He’s seen the way they look at each other when they think he’s not paying attention and it’s the same way he used to look at Mary when they were young and carefree-- and how’s he supposed to deny it? These kids are in love.

It’s kinda his fault, really. John locks them in small motel rooms, far away from the outside world where’s dangerous and painful and... what else could he expect? They only had each other to rely on since Sam was a baby. No other friends, not a single, stable love interest... Dean still hangs out with girls at school, but it’s obvious they don’t matter to him. They’ll soon move away again and again and the only thing that never changes for the kids are each other.

John takes a moment to stare at his boys. Despite all the horror they’re forced to face, all the monsters they have to take down-- they’re happy, and they deserve it, to make up for everything else. Why should he deny them such a small blessing? God be damned, he’s not that heartless.

“Hey.” John calls, almost sighs at Dean’s head snapping up quickly, tensing up as if he’s ready to jump at the next order-- jesus the kid needs a real break. Maybe John can leave town for a few weeks and let them relax. “Caleb called me today, says he needs help with a nest.”

Sam groans loudly, unamused and angry as always. Dean just sighs and nods at John-- yea, he’s leaving right now, or he’ll end up dragging them to a private room and forgetting they exist for like a week. Maybe it’ll be enough to ease Sam’s annoyance.

“You guys stay here. There’s enough cash for a week or so. Call Bobby if you need extra.” John says, grabbing his duffel and ready to be out of here in point five seconds. He pulls the door open and smiles at Dean. “And make sure you guys have some good, nice makeup sex. I can’t stand Sammy’s crankiness anymore.”

John’s pretty sure he hears Dean choking as he closes the door behind him.

Sam can’t help but smile as he notices Dean waiting for him in front of the school, looking so nice and great in his leather jacked and mullet rock echoing softly from the Impala. He’s been in a great mood since Dad praised him for a good hunt last week and Sam can just enjoy and push his luck-- so when he gets close enough, he wraps his arms around Dean and hugs him tightly, waiting patiently until Dean gets the hint and kiss him just as Sam wants.

“Missed me, baby boy?” Dean asks, amused and cocky as always and Sam rolls his eyes. “You so sweet, Sammy. Wanna a romantic date at a fancy restaurant and roses, too?”

“Sure, why not.” Sam just shrugs and can’t not laugh loudly when Dean chokes and stares at him as if he’s grown another head. His brother is such an idiot sometimes Sam can’t even remember why he’s fallen in love with that guy--but there’s a lot of reasons and he just doesn’t want to think about it right now. “Jerk.”

“Bitch.” Dean shakes his head and presses a soft kiss to Sam’s lips before pulling away. “But for real now, what about hanging out with your awesome big brother?”

“I dunno, I have lots of homework to do.” Sam replies, but he’s smiling and wondering what Dean’s planning now. His big brother just shrugs.

“Your loss. I found this real nice place near the lake and it’ll be empty for another few weeks.” Dean says, looking around for a moment as if he’s trying to find someone. “You think that Amanda girl will want to come? She--”

Oh that’s a low blow and they both know it-- but Sam ends up rising for the bait and jumping into the car before Dean can say something else. His big brother just laughs, gets in the car and kisses him again, and they stay there for a long time, kissing and holding hands and talking about random things until Dean revs the engine and starts driving towards the lake and this ‘nice place’ of his.

It’s just a cabin like any other they’ve found during their travels around the country, but there’s a nice fireplace and good, comfortable furniture inside, they have this nice view of the lake and more important--the place is empty indeed. Not that Sam doesn’t trust Dean- but sometimes his big brother is prone to do stupid things just to please Sam.

“So, your highness.” Dean says, dropping the leather jacket on the couch-- but he’s almost bristling, like he’s expecting Sam to say something about the place. Okay, there’s something going on here and-- oh. Oh boy, he’s planned this. “Is it good enough?”

Sam smiles and nods, pulling Dean to another kiss. “You didn’t kill the owner, did you?”

“Didn’t need to. I saved his ass from a black dog a few months ago and he gave me the keys for some time. We can use it until Dad comes back.” Dean wraps his arms around Sam, smiling almost gently, and brushes their noses together. “Love you, baby boy.”

Sam decides to ignore the stupid trio following him through the park. He’s quite used to it by now-- being the freak, the new kid... it’s annoying, of course. But he’s fine. They won’t be staying here for too long and this time Sam’s grateful tor that. This little town in the middle of nowhere, Texas isn’t his kind of thing. As soon as Dad and Dean deal with the vengeful spirit, they’ll be out of there and back to the road in a week.

“Look at him, the little faggot--”

Sam takes a deep breath to stay calm and try not to break this asshole’s nose, even if he deserves it. Dean’ll be pissed if he breaks the rules. But then there’s a hand on his shoulder, gripping tight--and god Sam’s glad he’s a patient kid.

"Are you deaf too, you freak?”

For a second Sam wonders if the pleasure of punching this guy will be worth the lecture he’ll get later-- but he doesn’t need to think about it for any longer. Dean is suddenly there, kissing the hell out of him and grabbing his ass as if no one is looking and Sam just wants to laugh. The three idiots back off quickly, gaping-- Dean is taller, bigger, all cool and popular with his leather jacket and the Impala...

“Hey baby boy.” Dean’s smile is a bit too forced, but Sam doesn’t care too much because in the next moment his big brother is staring at the trio asshole and Sam knows he’s looking pissed as fuck. “Do we have a problem here, fellas?”

They just shake their head and oh my, Sam’s never seen someone disappear as quickly as these three. He rolls his eyes and pushes Dean away, ignoring the faked pout his brother is trying to give him. He’s not really angry, but honestly, this game is getting quite old and more annoying than some closed-minded teenagers.

“I don’t need you babysitting me all the time, Dean.”

“Last time you said that, I needed to cross three states because you got kidnapped by a fucking shifter.”

It’s good to have something so familiar to cling to, because Mary leaving had been a real backstab.

“--what, fuck you.” Sam just replies at whatever Dean shot at him. His voice is full of venon and it’s obvious he’s furious, because the kid disappears from the library in record time.

The sound of a door being shoved close seems to echo through the whole bunker a few seconds later. Well this isn’t any different from when they were just teenagers and John basks in the strange sense of nostalgia around him. It almost feels like home, but he knows better.

“So--” John starts nonchalantly, takes a second to sip on his beer and it’s enough to give Dean some time to drop his body on the nearest seat. "Sammy wants a divorce?”

Dean just scoffs and runs a hand through his face, scratching the few days old stubble slowly, but says nothing. This is a current, new behavior John can’t recognize-- but it’s one he can understand. His boys have been through a lot, they’ve seen a lot and John can’t blame them for being almost strangers to him.

At least I’m not ditching them, he thinks bitterly.

“What did you do?” Dean asks suddenly, and he’s already stealing a beer from John’s pack before one can notice. Smartass. “You know, when you guys had some fight like this?”

“We had a lot of chick flick moments. After she kicked my ass for getting drunk as hell.” John shrugs and some of the tension resting on Dean’s shoulders just melts as he laughs. “But for you boys--” He finishes the beer in his hands and gets another. “Some makeup sex will do.”

Dean snorts, but it’s as clear as day in his face that he’s considering the idea. After a long minute he stares up at John, frowning, unsure of what to do. “You think I’ll survive long enough to suggest it?”

“Text him. Safer. But later, smartass--” John confiscates Dean’s phone before he can start typing the message. “You do it now, he eats you alive.”

Dean simply hums in understanding. John laughs.

It feels good to be home again.

Sam pretends not to see Dean staring. It feels uncomfortable as hell, as if there’s something crawling under his skin and he just can’t get it off– but it’s manageable. It still feels better than the anger bubbling within his chest, hot and dangerous, poisonous even. More than once Sam had wondered what he would’ve done if Dean wasn’t around to keep him balanced, if he didn’t have his brother to keep his rage at bay.

He’d become a twisted, comically tragic version of his father, he supposes.

“You okay?” Dean asks suddenly, and just in that moment Sam notices his brother’s been trying to call his attention for quite some time now. There’s a hand resting on his tight, fingers digging deep into the jeans and Sam shivers at the realization. “Sammy?”

“I’m fine–” Sam clears his throat, tries to force himself not to blush under Dean’s touch. They both should’ve forgotten whatever happened between them all those years ago. Sam had tried, but... “Can you– y’know, stop touching me?”

Dean stares at Sam for a long second, frowns as he understands Sam’s request and finally moves his hand back to the wheel, lips pressed into a thin line. Sam sighs and presses himself against the car door, trying to keep a safe distance from Dean’s hands. He’s being selfish and immature, and Sam knows that– he just can’t. Not after Jessica, not this soon.

Not when he can still smell her flesh burning.

“You don’t need to jump outta the car just ‘cause I touched you.” Dean says, bitter and hurt. Sam sighs. Do they really need to have this conversation right now? Inside a car, in the middle of nowhere? Nope, Sam’s not rising to this bait. Dean won’t let it go so easily, though. “What, silence treatment now? Real progress here.”

“Fuck you, Dean. You ditched me.” Sam finally snaps, allowing himself to vent and get rid of some of all that anger for a minute. “I told you to come with me. We could’ve had a normal life and be happy and you do what? You fucking ditch me to suck Dad’s cock instead.”

“That’s not what–”

“Jess is dead.” Sam groans, ignoring the silent tears running down his cheek, and that’s enough to make Dean shut up for a second. The car had stopped at some moment but he’s not even paying attention. “She died and it’s been only two weeks. Excuse me if I’m not so eager to get into your fucking pants right now.”

“I’m sorry, Sammy.” Dean says softly, and some of the anger bubbling inside Sam slips away, leaving him tired and empty. It’s just too much right now and he wants to keep fighting--
