so I finished misfile today and honestly I found the ending kind of baffling but not offensive per se. a lot of other parts of the comic seemed more offensive to me!

We are looking to find answers for red that are in flavor for red that don't undercut the color philosophy or the weaknesses that are supposed to be there. This has led to things like impulsive draw and rummaging to give red some more long term answers.

He's very obviously a robot.

A few things:

Why does the world work the way it does rather than, say, being ruled by ghosts?

If there are no ghosts, what purpose does the universe serve?

What is consciousness and what does it allow us to do?

What is reality and how does it differ from appearances?

Why is everyone who has ever lived alive?

Why am I alive right now?

That doesn't really have anything to do with TNC, just what I'm into these days. If it's too personal, I can try to be more generic.

I guess I do think that a lot of "the world is a meaningless nightmare" stuff is wrong, and that people who are "enjoying" that worldview and trying to convince others that the world is terrible and meaningless are wrong.

I don't know whether the TNC posts can do much to convince these people, though. I haven't read much fiction in a long time now and I kind of doubt I have a very good sense of "what sort of stuff people are likely to find interesting in a general sense."

I think one of the reasons I liked TNC was that it had this feeling of "oh, I totally get it now." The book opens with a character saying: "Everything is very weird, like one of those dreams where your nose does things." If you have a bad day, you might find that sentence distressing, because it sounds like someone is saying "life is awful and everyone is doomed and there is no meaning." But then TNC goes on to give you the experience of "the world is great and wonderful" and suddenly it feels like there was no reason to feel that way.

It feels very "natural" to feel like the world is terrible and there's no point in trying to change it. But that's because it is.

(One of the things I had in mind here is "this would be a nice way of thinking about the world if I weren't in it." The more "awful" something is, the easier it is to interpret it as a symptom of how I'm screwed up and not an outside world. There are many places one can make that mistake. In TNC, the world and other people don't really feel like symptoms of my fundamental character flaws; they just are. A lot of people can't handle that.)

You can cast Desperate Ravings in response to Grapeshot’s storm trigger, but you won’t get an extra copy from the storm trigger for it. A storm trigger will only ever give you copies equal to the number of spells cast before the storm card was cast.
