It's not uncommon for him to overhear people talking about some breakthroughs, or some people who gained fame after doing something incomparable to everyone else ( he's one of these people, even. ) He's taking a break from research, took a moment to stop by a shop since everyone else was busy, and is picking out bread when he, once again, overhears chatter not too far from him. Shirogane? He's unfamiliar with the name, and stuffs a piece of bread once paid for into his mouth, ready to leave.
At least, up until he hears a 'pardon me', and when he turns to look the first thing he really notices is -- this person is taller than him ( although not by much, ) then the hat, before he looks towards the person's eyes. He won't think about it. Try not to. Don't think about it. He's too focused on this that he doesn't notice the person is actually saying more to him than the initial two words, and he snaps back into what they’re saying, but not before cutting them off.
