he was already emotionally done, tooru felt so lost-- so broken. everything was falling apart, he’d been told he could no longer play volleyball and he felt like there was no point. he felt so worthless, he felt like he was a failure to not only himself but everyone else. everyone who was ever proud of him, all the people that looked up to him he was failing them. most of all he felt like he was failing kuroo-- why would kuroo want someone so broken. so lost, someone who couldn’t even reach the thing they’ve always wanted to do in life.

tooru was curled up on the bed, dry tears on his face. and then kuroo’s voice broke the silence, tooru looked up-- he could feel his eyes tearing up again, he wanted to burst. at least if he did his love would hold him right? make that sinking feeling go away.

those words helped. it seemed as if tetsurou knew what to say, he always knew what to say at the right time. he knew how to pull tooru away from his sadness even it was for just a moment-- tooru pushed himself up so that he could take hold of his loves hands.

“i only need you to like them.”

tooru knew he always thought so much on the bad things people had to say about him, he let them get to him and eat him alive. he let them push him into a fake persona and he hated it. maybe not going pro was a good thing. he’d be able to spend more time with tetsurou now. he’d now have to wonder what living in a long distance relationship would be like now-- it didn’t have to be the end right? just seeing as he couldn’t play doesn’t mean he couldn’t get involved with volleyball some other way. that didn’t matter right now. oikawa tugged kuroo close, “i’m glad you like them.. as you’ll have to put up with them for a lifetime.”
