in honor of pride month, reactions to reader coming out as gay? dealer's choice on characters
WE’RE GOIN MULTIFANDOM! Ive decided to pick the newest members, and the most popular :D
This post includes AZ, L, Ryland, and Simon :)
How would AZ react to reader coming out to him?
Happily! Being anything beyond straight wasn’t exactly frowned upon in his day and age, and he feels honored that you trusted him enough to tell him. If there’s any advice or comfort you need, he’s absolutely there for you every step of the way. He himself swings both ways, which you will promptly learn upon telling him.
If you specifically come out as gay, he will likely ask politely if you have a partner, and if not, suggest safe places to meet others and maybe mingle a bit if you choose to. He may also offer sanctuary for you, should you have a less than pleasant reaction from anyone else.
How would L react to reader coming out to him?
Pleasantly surprised! He’s grateful that you chose to share that with him, and offers a gentle congrats on being comfortable with yourself. Like AZ, he feels honored that you trusted him. The only thing about L is that, should anyone bother you about your newly outed self, he is on a hair trigger and will slink out into the open to defend your honor. He finds himself in similar shoes, being treated differently for something he didn’t choose to be (Lysandre died in that rubble, L is what crawled out. He’s a changed man, despite everything), so he sometimes takes off handed comments of prejudice toward you a little too personally.
If you specifically come out as gay, he may find himself curious, asking a small line of questions regarding how that feels and wondering openly if he may be like that. This is when L discovers that he just..needs a connection. (This is my L is demisexual propaganda.)
How would Ryland react to reader coming out to him?
Enthusiastically! Although there are two specific situations.
The first is if the reader is his student, at which point he will become the most proud uncle ever for a few seconds and tells you how proud he is of your bravery. He feels touched that you felt safe enough to tell him this, and may ask why you did. Not because it’s bad, but because whatever he did to make you feel comfortable, he wants to make sure he continues to do it! Every student should feel safe and welcomed in his classroom.
The second is if reader is an adult friend or colleague. His knee jerk reaction will be mild pride that they told him this, but he will be a tad confused as to why they told him of all people. He’ll likely sit down with them and talk to them about their experience, and open up about his own questioning of his sexuality in return in an attempt to connect.
How would Simon react to reader coming out to him?
(This is my first crack at him so bear with me.)
I think Simon, personally, would question why they chose to tell him. He doesn’t really care what you are, there’s not really enough people left for it to matter, but he understands enough to know that it would put a massive target on your back. If you tell him, he would promise to keep your confession safe with him.
If you are someone he cares about, he’d likely become a little more defensive of you. Body blocking if someone becomes belligerent, or turning the conversation if it pushes too close to the topic of sexuality. It’s his own way of trying to protect you; whatever the threat is, well that’s irrelevant.
Unfortunately, his cult like upbringing does make him apprehensive to question his own sexual preferences or even romantic ones, so he doesn’t really bring it up.
HAPPY PRIDE EVERYONE!! Have an amazing day!!
