POLICIES: Organise more ACCESSIBLE activities/clubs/events to bring disabled students together as a community
It's not just important to be able to ACCESS education at university - it is also really important that all students can partake in student activities. I will work to ensure that as many social events at university are ACCESSIBLE to everyone.
It would be great to have more aspirational disabled speakers in on campus - the LSESU Labour Society event 'Politics and Mental Health: In conversation with John Woodcock MP' a couple of weeks ago was really interesting and beneficial. I would welcome the opportunity to invite in more disabled people with successful careers in the kinds of areas that LSE students are interested in to inspire disabled students.
Moreover, other Liberation movements of campus have frequent social events, but this doesn't happen with disabled students. I believe that we would benefit from greater social interaction through fun, ACCESSIBLE events and clubs. I would love to have a sign language club for instance, or go to see Adam Hills or other great disabled comedians. It would be great to bring us together as more of a community. What are your suggestions for fun activities for our Liberation movement?

Disability, Accessibility, and Transgender Activism
Categories of marginalization often intersect. For transgender activism to benefit all trans folks, we need to spend time thinking about those intersections. One intersection that's been on my mind lately is the one between disability and trans identity.
There is a lot of common ground between disability activism and transgender activism. Both seek to address employment & housing discrimination. Both acknowledge bathrooms as a site of exclusion and inaccessibility. Smart people have elaborated on this topic in this article.
Beyond that, it's also important to recognize that many trans people navigate disability, and many with disabilities are also trans. And so when we work to create events and spaces for the trans community, we need to think about who we're actually making space for.
